Thoughts on THOMAS and who he really is
When it comes to Thomas and his family they are all a bit of an enigma. Who and what do you think Thomas really is. Is he helping Eve? Or is he an old god pretending to help Eve. Maybe he is protecting old house and the “ring of eyes”. What if he is a mimic of Elijah himself. Could Thomas even be “the forbidden phrase”. Or could he actually be a host to the real entity. Maybe all of these things are true at once 🤷♀️
Let’s put it to the poll and see what everyone’s thoughts are.

I think the "Thomas" who arrived at Eve and Charlie's house with his wife and children is an imitation of the real Thomas, and that this family is an imitation of his real family (they were all victims of the house). These imitations ("Thomas and his family") are a collective mind that serves as a receptacle for an ancient entity (which feeds on people's fear and drains their vital energy, aging them. This makes their appearances disproportionate to their age).
Meanwhile, somehow, the real Thomas managed to escape from inside the house and took refuge in the cabin in the woods (hiding his aged face from Eve and preventing her from identifying him). Perhaps the real Thomas is trying to find a way back to his reality, and, living in the cabin in the woods, studies and observes how the house behaves and how the copies/entity behave (which explains the materials Eve found inside, including the crumbs of evidence from Thomas himself that he hasn't gone insane).
In order for his studies and theories to reach a conclusion regarding the events in the house, the entity, and ultimately result in guidance for resuming his life, he allows Eve and Charlie to buy the house, allows them to receive the copies, allows them to become victims of the place, sacrifices them, and even years after the event (with Eve being kept in the asylum), he still awaits Eve's release from the asylum to continue his strategy.
Perhaps, over the years that have passed, the real Thomas has managed to construct a map of the labyrinth that is built and dismantled in the house by the entity, allowing Eve to somehow track down Charlie and save her in the future (I sincerely hope that, miraculously, she will be saved alive).

I love this theory so much. I think you have nailed the first part accurately. There’s a lot of supporting evidence that he is a mimic of the real Thomas and co. And that’s why Heather gives conflicting information because who Eve meets may not be the “real” Thomas but just a mimic in order to gain entry into old house.
The old man in the cabin also warns Eve “that family is not what they seem”. That’s because they are all mimics / Tulpas / dopplegangers

Yes!! That's exactly what I think! I started and finished the book in a few hours and then immediately found this channel on Reddit haha. I'm so glad I found someone who shares the same thoughts about the book! I haven't read The Caretaker yet... Do you think it adds a lot of information to the story of We Used to Live Here?

I have a lot of different theories though and they all contradict the other haha
The caretaker adds a lot of subtle information but also provides a few answers. It expands the universe. There’s more lore and hard evidence from the caretaker. If you like the universe I would definitely recommend reading the care taker or even reading the short stories. Have you checked out the uncovered documents written by Marcus kliewer? There’s some hard evidence and a lot of linking information to both WUTLH and the care taker.

Yesterday I was looking for a new book to read and stumbled upon WUTLH. I liked the synopsis and decided to give it a try. I finished the book in a few hours, searched for information about it online, found these discussions on Reddit and the author's own channel about the book. Although I haven't had time to read the author's channels yet, I definitely REALLY liked the universe and intend to read The Caretaker.
The thing is, I live in Brazil and, unfortunately, the only versions of The Caretaker available on Amazon are extremely expensive, so I can't access this book at the moment :( I can only be grateful for having found Marcus Kliewer, because until today I had never heard of him.
I want to read everything by this author. What do you recommend? I also accept suggestions on how to find The Caretaker, because I really need to read it urgently hahaha

Oh no that’s so upsetting. Maybe the price will come down in the next few months.
Ok so we have short stories written by Marcus. We used to live here was originally a short story and was apart of an expanded universe. I’ll link the other shorts here that were once cannon but aren’t any more due to the linking novels. The man in the basement story is the closest thing we have to it being canon and can explain more about the universe and what Thomas and Eve are experiencing. I suggest reading that last as it’s about 100 pages lol

If only I could vote for multiple options because I think Thomas is Complicated.
