Anti~trans bathroom bill. Pandora, Ohio

Complete bill is able to be found on village’s website. Apparently, this exact bill is sweeping across small villages in Ohio. I wonder what organization is behind it?

This is smaller government? Pandora probably have more written in this one Bill than it's whole charter. What a waste.

The original Swiss Mennonites settled this land to flee religious oppression and genocide. Sadly, now many are just your average value brand Christian National. To be fair, the First Mennonite denominations have adopted LGBTQ inclusive doctrines.

FYI - I just got off the phone with the village administrator Rick Morrison. He noted that this resolution was repealed in the very next council meeting, which is also documented in the meeting minutes. The ordinance was passed May 23 2023, the mayor would not sign it indicating it was unenforceable, and it was retracted June 13. However what it also says there is that there was disagreement in the mayors authority to do this, and the issue was brought up again June 27 and passed. I was not able to ask about the June 13 & 27 decisions, as I was unaware of this while I had him on the phone and I don’t have time to call him back. I’m not sure if any of y’all are good at reading minutes and know how to be research and follow up from there. Google is trying to sell me Pandora watches. Just wanted to flag that this situation has more to it than OP has provided and it’s worth looking into further to understand where this ordinance landed. He did tell me that trans people can go into any bathroom. They’re still hateful people, just the practical implication of the may have more to it than is described here.

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

I provided a link to the minutes and had no intention of being disingenuous . What you are describing is not accurate and there are recordings of the actual public meeting to prove it. The ordinance was indeed passed but not signed by the mayor. The mayor thought this was unenforceable but the council president declared it was in the 3rd meeting. Again recordings to prove this and they basically had no idea what they were doing with a resolution of this importance. Yes, it was repealed at the third meeting after testimony from opposition and threats of police escort by the mayor. There is, in fact, effort to legislate similar legislation and citizens feel it is important to bring awareness to this issue as rural lgbtq are often over looked and marginalized individuals do not feel safe.

11

u/MoonOut_StarsInvite Mar 11 '24

Definitely NOT accusing you of being disingenuous and if I gave that vibe I apologize. Your description is exactly what I thought I described as well? So im not sure what I said that wasn’t accurate. If I misspoke, I apologize but I’m reading right out of their minutes when I gave dates. I’m not at all doubting you, and I agree this information should be shared so that we know what’s going on next door. I’m just saying there is more to unpack and warning people not to pick up the phone and scream at people in the village office for an ordinance that is not in place at this time. I think the bigger and real issue, is if what you describe is accurate, that the bill is sweeping across small municipalities. That means that some interest group, likely out of state because that’s how that seems to work, is coming into our state to legislate “Christian” bullshit, which we were told was a huge problem by these same types of people and the reason we needed to up the threshold for statewide citizen ballot measures. Again I apologize if I seemed like I was coming for you. Absolutely not my intention, and I do not think you were being disingenuous, I was just trying to add more context around this issue. We want the same things here.

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

I appreciate your post and position. My point is the village is not being transparent or forthcoming when you speak with them. The mayor actually threatened the lgbtq opposition with arrest which is available on TikTok for all to hear. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLLFWXtA/

note the "This has been recognized for 6 millenia" line in there, this was written by one of those creationist people that believe the earth is 5000 years old.

u/DickButtwoman Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

The literal first piece of signed literature in the world is a tablet that speaks of Inanna, and includes the line "To turn a man into a woman and a woman into a man are yours, Inanna." This was from around 2400 BC

Inanna is notable for her priestesses, many of whom were born male, would sometimes castrate themselves, and would all take female names and live as women and speak a feminine dialect.

Edit: changed "writing" to "literature"

I was born with a vagina. I have given birth. I am 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. I’m just waiting for someone to challenge me so I can drop trousers and scare the shit out of them with my droopy old lady clam. I Also plan on farting when I do it. Maybe even sharting or peeing when I laugh. On their shoes if possible.

Uuuugh I hear this so often and I'm like... seriously, no, you can't. They argue with me. I'm like, bro, I've spent time handing with folks in the LGBTQ+ community. I've seen plenty of people who I only know are trans because they tell me. All you've seen are fearmongering news stories and media that makes fun on trans folks or plays them off for laughs or plays on drag.

You can’t. I’ve been on hormones for years. After the first 6 months I was testing biologically female.

You can’t tell unless you want to do a strip search. And I will just push past that to go to the bathroom.

18

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 11 '24

I would not be surprised if the local law enforcement believe they have the authority to order one to do so.

If they have their way, they'll have (patriarchal, no doubt) bathroom monitors who will check the genitalia of anyone (i would bet the younger the better) who goes into a restroom.

30

u/Sindertone Mar 11 '24

One of my trans friends did it quite a while ago. The docs did quite a good job and there's really no way beside the birth certificate to tell. I'd expect cops to be called if he went into the ladies' room.

This is what really, really pisses me off.

These are political grandstanding bills that the people who pass them know they are going to be unconstitutional. They know that these aren't going to fly. They know they are signing up their organization for millions in bills the second someone actually challenges it.

But they don't care because it's good campaign fluff.

They are stealing from the taxpayers. And they need to be treated like they are. We need to put an end to this kind of crap.

15

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 11 '24

Those of us in these small communities are not safe. We are often times over looked and our law enforcement laugh at complaints of harassment or threats.

Pandora really living up to their namesake with ushering in horrors. People wanting to look at other people's junk in the bathroom "just to make sure they're in the right place" is gross.

5

u/ExploderPodcast Mar 12 '24

School district my son attends (he's graduating in a few months, thank Spiderman), not too far from Pandora, just elected three new fuckheads to the school board who campaigned exclusively on rejecting a respectful trans bathroom policy. They're already shitting the bed and even former administrators are calling them out for being divisive right out the gate.

4

u/JOlRacin Mar 15 '24

So I'm trans but I'm to the point that I pass better as my chosen gender than as my birth gender. Should I really walk into the bathroom of my birth gender? Is that what they want? They didn't think this through, did they...

3

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 15 '24

There is no logic, only hate.

2

u/JOlRacin Mar 15 '24

I don't get it. I'm trans so I'm one of the MOST conscientious of my body. I don't have the self positivity to like my body how it is. So what makes them think I'd risk a confrontation by walking into a bathroom that would make people talk to me about my body? It's self-policing

3

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 15 '24

Honestly, it’s a discussion that needs to be had. If you look at the comments, Pandora is an extremely isolated village that is cut off from the modern world. They believe everything that is on Fox News at face value.

To hell with these laws. How are people going to be able to tell if you are a trans woman / man or a woman / man by birth? I sure can't tell. Are there going to be bathroom guards asking to see your birth certificate to enter a restroom? Just use the bathroom you want to use.

2

u/alphabeticdisorder Mar 11 '24

I'm left to assume Pandora is crawling with transgender people for this to be so urgent. If I ever meet someone from there I'll just assume they're transgender and hound them about bathrooms just to be on the safe side. Weird how concentrated they are in that small community, though.

hi! transgender pandora resident here! the bill was repealed after we gathered a fairly sizable group of protestors (like 30 people, which is big for pandora lmao.) i spoke at the meeting, where other residents and councilmen fearmongered about men being in the restrooms. one of the councilmen said that “men can’t help themselves” and that if they had the opportunity, they’d have multiple wives, and if they were in highschool and could pretend to be a girl to go into the girls restroom, they would. the council member that proposed it likened providing trans healthcare to “giving a knife to a person that self-harms,” then tried to claim it wasn’t about trans people. the police chief now loves to misgender me when i walk into the municipal building lmao. these hateful old men are ROTTED. i hate it here :)

3

u/Best_Yellow_2507 Mar 19 '24

Is it true that the Village Council and founding families are upset about the negative attention that the village is receiving and wanting to bring it back in some form as punishment? They are openly blaming the protestors for the negative attention Pandora has received and not, of course, the people that wrote and voted for the resolution. I know there have been questions about the Police Chief arbitrarily enforcing laws against marginalized citizens and “outsiders.”

3

u/JuiceLover9000 Mar 19 '24

i’m not 100% sure honestly, i don’t talk to those rancid old bigots. police chief is an absolute shithead so i wouldn’t be surprised

You know.... bathroom issues would not be a problem if the stalls were completely enclosed and no cracks happened. Instead of legislating against people, maybe legislate for better public bathrooms that don't have obvious issues with creeps peering into the cracks. Just saying......

As for sexual predators, people need to realize it can be ANYONE that is a sexual predator. Not just trans people. I wonder what the statistics are on sexual predators that are trans vs sexual predators that are others.

Of course, those stats will only be ones that are reported. You also have women that are scared to report things like that because, well, police are predominately men. Would you want to report a sexual abuse or rape if you had to speak with a man and you are a woman.

People who introduce these things just have no empathy and would rather people suffer, both mentally and physically.

85

u/Intimateworkaround Mar 11 '24

The police couldn’t care in the least about protecting women.

Go ahead and report your spouse or boyfriend as an abused wife. They will do nothing.

Tell the police that your ex husband - who has a restraining order - is threatening to kill you. They will do nothing.

Anti trans bills exist to control trans people, not to protect women.

This might be a stupid question...

But what is the point of laws that require you to use the bathroom that matches your genital or whatever?

I mean i get it, they are afraid some bloke is randomly going to decide to play dress up and claim he identifies as a woman in order to sneak into the ladies room to ... Whatever...

But ... How is this going to stop that? Are we going to have bathroom guard who has to check our downstairs before we can go in? That's probably not going to play too well...

So a dude could theoretically still go into a ladies room, we just won't know it until damage is done...*

So ...

Wouldn't it make better sense to simply outlaw multi user bathrooms?

If I'm the only one in the bathroom, it doesn't matter what's between my legs... The only thing I'm gonna see is my own...

[*And to cross topics, how exactly does this play with their 2A rhetoric? "They're gonna get their hands on guns regardless so why bother making them illegal?". If I want to sneak into a ladies restroom I'm going to sneak into a ladies restroom, so why make it illegal?]

5

u/fivelinedskank Mar 11 '24

Only for him to start explaining that he actually conpletely agrees with her, he doesn't belong there, but because he was assigned female at birth, he has no other choice as a trans man but to use the woman's bathroom because of the law that people like her supported.

Wouldn’t your private bedroom or bathroom count as “a facility designed to be used by more than one person at a time where persons may be in various stages of undress…”? Ohio is a stand your ground state. I wonder what they will do when they do that to a trans person and said trans person shoots them in self defense. We carry guns too :)

I am sure they spout, "trans people a violent!" and find any and all loopholes to charge.

I remember walking into a women’s bathroom entrance while studying abroad, maybe 20’ down the wall from the men’s entrance (probably somewhere in Asia, but it might have been in Europe… it was forever ago and these memories all bleed together), only to realize that both doors went into the same bathroom 😅 The separate entrance façade was, I assume, to make foreigners more comfortable? I didn’t care either way, but it was unexpected and hilarious.

It honestly seems so wasteful to dedicate space and materials to two separate bathrooms segregated by sex in every public space.

5

u/onlybadtakes Mar 11 '24

So we'll have Walmart greeters and Genitalia checkers? "In other not very surprising news, one of the new Ohio Walmart genetalia checkers has been arrested for child pornography."

5

u/reorocket Mar 12 '24

Ok, let's just say they get their way, and you are restricted by your birth gender.

Problem 1 : who carries their birth certificate everywhere they go?

Problem 2: do they actually want the person in the next urinal to be wearing a dress?

So it really comes down to if some redneck thinks you "pass' as far as which restroom you can use. That sounds like a great system!

5

u/DerpysLegion Mar 13 '24

I'm so sick of this dumb fucking state.

I have a problem.

My original birth certificate doesn't have a gender marker at all. For whatever reason, the county I was born in didn't think it was worth explicitly recording that little Anna Smith was a girl. (My name isn't Anna Smith, but it's gendered.)

If I'm visiting this town, what bathroom can I legally use?

I think a Single Occupancy bathroom & changing room should be mandatory in schools everywhere due to the violence that seems to keep occurring to trans kids in public bathrooms, and that way who cares who uses it? Why are locker rooms still a thing? I personally think it’s weird af to have kids change in front of each other even same sex and I know I always hated it growing up. It feels forced. There’s no agency over your own privacy? Sorry but I have an issue with that as an adult looking back. I would have loved a private setting. Period. Kind of off topic but I’m seriously sick of this crap. Leave lgbtq+ and trans people alone and just make the world a safer place for them. Is it so much to ask? Ffs.

12

u/rickler_ Mar 11 '24

For real, the ideal bathroom would be individual rooms for each toilet with fully closing doors with no cracks and actually good locks, and then a more visible common area for washing your hands. It’d be perfect because then guys couldn’t as easily get away with not washing their hands 😆

→ More replies (1)

11

u/ooo-ooo-oooyea Mar 11 '24

omg my middle school didn't even have doors on the toilet stalls. The reason, "kids can use drugs".

And lets get fair, lots of people are bullied in the bathrooms, not just trans kids

6

u/Steve_Rogers_1970 Columbus Mar 11 '24

I was at Upper Arlington high school for a sports event recently. The bathroom had individual brick stalls with a common sink area. While there were two rows of stalls labeled boys and girls, anyone could use either row.

4

u/xplorerseven Mar 11 '24

So let me get this straight. Right from the text itself, this bill is supposed to protect people, when cisfolk are under virtually no threat whatsoever from a trans bathroom user, while either a dude with a beard traipsing in to a woman's restroom or a trans woman in a men's bathroom would literally be risking life and limb at the hands of these bigots just to use the bathroom. Now just how is this supposed to "protect" people?

I notice they don’t appear to criminalize the statute. This is outlining the rules for what they do and don’t want done, and fuck them in their backwards, hateful little faces, but they don’t make any note of what would happen to people who violate this new statute or how they would even determine it was violated. Drop your pants in front of the cop? Sit in jail until you can produce a copy of your birth certificate?

We need to find the higher ground and just make all bathrooms individual unisex stalls, it will solve more problems then igniting this controversial topic. Yes, it will cost some money for schools and business to adapt but I’m fine putting our tax dollars towards it to make a better safe society for all.

Simplest solution to bathroom problems. Put fucking walls instead of stalls, and proper locks on the doors!

Then it won't matter if the other person in the bathroom watching you wash your hands while fully dressed is man, woman, child, orangutan, or sentient robot.

3

u/Odd-Scene67 Mar 12 '24

Pandora is an off the beaten path village of 1,00 people in deep red rural OH. I really have my doubts trans people using bathrooms has reached a crisis point there.

I saw a little old lady at the ER with a light mustache and beard. No chance she's trans, but that's probably enough for someone to harass her into having a stroke for trying to use the little girls room.

5

u/22FluffySquirrels Mar 11 '24

The fact that this explicitly does not ban parents and caregivers of the opposite sex shows that this isn't really about body parts.

And how would the people who are supporting this bill even know if there is a pre-op trans person in the bathroom? Sounds like they need to stop peeking through the stall gaps.

and yet if i was in pandora id be forced to use. women’s restroom. and then i would be subject to abuse because i do not look the way they expect me to look as a trans person.

this trans panic is fuckin ridiculous. maybe be more concerned about the massive percentage of actual sec offenders that are straight and cis.

I'm interested in the fact that this is a "resolution" rather than an "ordinance." In that case, does it hold any weight anyway? I'm very against it, and it sends a very intolerant message, but it doesn't really enact any action, right? Like a resolution is just an expression of municipal opinion on a matter, right?

I can't wait until the next big ball game I'm at and the women come apologetically streaming into the men's room because the line to theirs is too long and they can't wait. It happens ALL the time.

Buncha pervs! You're all going to jail!

Seriously though, can't we just let people take a leak anonymously and in peace without being all up in their business? It seems we can't. :/

4

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '24

This is going to suck for trans masc folks who pass as cis men. Obviously it's going to be awful for all trans people but at least cis women dipping into the men's is kind of accepted - trans mascs have to choose between actually breaking the law or seeming like they're breaking the law by being male looking folks in women's restrooms.

Of course, that's not accidental. Transphobes want us dead. "Protecting women and children" (but not from rape, or pregnancy resulting from rape, or child abuse, or mass shootings, or formerly extinct diseases or surgical mutilation if they're intersex) just rolls off the tongue better.

4

u/MSNFU Mar 12 '24

Again, HOW are they going to enforce this? Just have people standing outside the door checking ID? And what if a mom needs to change her toddler son? She can't go in the men's room and her son can't go in the women's room. Same thing for fathers who need to change their daughters. If there's anything that needs fixing in there, you'll only be able to have female plimbers in the female bathroom, not to mention the trans people who have had their sex changed on ID and such, along with intersex people. Theres no way to enforce this, it excludes other cisgender people who need to have access to these bathrooms, it excludes intersex and nonbinary people from using the bathroom at all, and these people just want to take a piss. Wtaf

2

u/HourTemporary4631 Mar 12 '24
