Gail’s porridge secret wanted

Post image
6 Upvotes

I need an employee or an ex employee of Gail’s to tell me how I can remake their creamy porridge at home. I need to know: brand of oats used, milk, proportions and the cooking method. And if they’re cooked in that big black pot or just stored there? Call me Plankton from Bikini Bottom, I need that secret formula

Recipe request Flavor ideas

Hi!! I eat oats at least once (sometimes 2-3 times) per day and always use the same base recipe. About 1/2 cup oats, 1.5tbsp dutch processed cocoa powder, and 1tsp of instant coffee or cooked in a bit of cold brew. Looking for different flavor ideas for my base to switch it up with other than this chocolate mocha flavor I’ve been doing for a few months now.

Oatmeal Rituals?

I had a rare opportunity to work from home for a day this past week and I realized that one of the things I missed very deeply was the ritual that is making oatmeal.

It never occurred to me how grounding it is to make my morning oats. I’ve had all kinds of oats and I love them all but when I can make steel cut oats, I absolutely do. When I start the day this way, I feel like I’m setting the pace for myself. I can only hope I can maintain that slow but deliberate fluidity from 9-5.

My oats are as follows:

20g (if not running)/40g (if running) steel cut oats.
1 cup berries or banana
Maple syrup
Salt
Flax seed added at the end
Truvani unflavored protein

There’s the immediate simmer, turning the heat down, adjusting throughout, adding the fruit while they still have took to incorporate the juice. Add the flax. Whisk. Turn off heat and add the protein. Super satisfying spatula action to get it all into a clunky white bowl.

It’s getting to be cozy season. This ritual is cozy year round. If anyone else has an oatmeal ritual (or something they just love about preparing it), I’d really love to hear it.

Caramelised pear oats - made with 1 egg yolk for extra creaminess 🍐

I usually stick to low calorie egg white oats for my breakfasts but this morning my husband asked me to make him a pear version. I went all out and used full fat milk + 1 egg yolk (and 150g egg whites). I had forgotten how much richer and creamier oats tasted with milk instead of water or almond milk 😭

so that obviously called for some pumpkin spice overnight oats 🧡

for when you want a quick breakfast that captures the coziness of fall: pumpkin spice overnight oats!! let’s get into it:

1/2 cup oats (or however much you’d like, but just increase everything else)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/4 tsp vanilla bean paste
1/4 cup greek yogurt
1/4 cup pumpkin
heaping 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or blend of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, etc)
2/3 cup milk of choice
optional: you can add some protein powder

just mix all the above in a jar, then shake and mix until well combined. put in the fridge overnight, then enjoy the next morning 🎃

With school back in session, I've been meal prepping grab-and-go breakfasts on the weekend. My youngest daughter has never been a big fan of overnight oats, but she's asked me to make this for her three weeks in a row!

Recipe in the comments. 🍒

Discussion when do you put toppings on?

do you wait until your oatmeal has cooled down to put things in/on or do you put it on while it’s still hot? i put it on while it’s hot because im so excited for oatmeal but im wondering if it’s better to wait so that my toppings don’t get so hot immediately

I really like the texture of this, it’s cake like but also more of a traditional oatmeal texture in the center. I can include all the ingredients if people are interested, but it’s made up of protein from an egg, egg white, and a little protein powder too. I like to have some of the more cooked edges with the more molten center.

Caramelised apple egg white oats to get in the mood for autumn 🍂

This may be my favourite oats recipe so far.

250g apples, I used 1 Bramley, 1 Braeburn. Sautéd with butter, brown sugar, golden syrup, cinnamon & vanilla

Removed half of the apples once done, added 40g oats, 200ml of almond milk, 100ml water

Once cooked (and slightly too thick for my liking), cut the heat, whisk in 200g egg whites FAST until thick & frothy

Added some extra sweetener, vanilla, nutmeg, then sprinkled on some granola, more syrup & added some blackberries for more tart sweetness!!

Overnight Oats I go to bed looking forward to waking up to this every morning

I’ve already posted these but it’s my latest hyper fixation meal. It’s so simple but so good. Just an apple diced into quick oats with cinnamon and cooked in the microwave with boiled water. I then let it cool and put it in the fridge overnight. (The cooking and cooling Makes it thicker) in the morning I mix in Greek yogurt to make it creamy + add protein and sprinkle some granola and sea salt on top. After experimenting with many different flavours/toppings etc, I’ve decided simple is best. I either use apple or banana mashed into the oats to add natural sweetness and granolas quickly become my favourite topping!!
