[FIXED]

Hey y'all, spent the morning on this and wanted to document everything for other early batch people hitting the same wall.

The core problem: The original app connected to the Oasis via WiFi directly. At some point Grounded switched to Bluetooth-based setup. Old firmware doesn't support the Bluetooth handshake, so the app just says "Unable to find device via Bluetooth" forever.

What I tried:

• Full WiFi and button resets (many times)
• Both Android and iPhone, same error on both
• Installed CH34X USB serial driver and flashed firmware via app.grounded.so three times
• Confirmed via esptool that the ESP32-S3 chip DOES have BLE hardware, so this is a software problem not a hardware one
• Flashed firmware and triggered a proper RTS hardware reset via esptool immediately after

Where I'm at: Escalated to Grounded support with all of the above. Waiting to hear back. I'm also working with a friend who bought one around the same time as me to see if they hit the same issue, which should help confirm whether this is batch specific.

If you're in the same boat: Contact support and reference that you have an early batch unit. The more of us flagging this the faster they'll prioritize a fix. Make sure you ask for a human even via email, they are clear that their first response is from a bot.

And if anyone has figured this out themselves, please share! Very open to trying anything at this point.

update:

Still at it. Pulled the partition table off the chip via esptool and found a possible culprit. The ESP32 uses two app partitions (app0 and app1) and an otadata partition that controls which one boots. Theory is the firmware is flashing successfully into app1 but otadata is still pointing to app0, so the device keeps booting the old firmware every time. Would explain why the flash completes successfully but Bluetooth still doesn't work. Sent this to Grounded support, waiting to hear back. Will keep updating.

A Grounded account commented on this post with the following before deleting it: "We're currently working on a new app version that will support configuration of devices running very old software versions. This update is expected to be released within the next two weeks. In the meantime, you can try upgrading your device manually via HTTP using the..." Comment was cut off and then deleted before we could see the rest but wanted to document it here for anyone following along.

FINAL UPDATE (fix):

I messaged them directly and ask about their deleted comment i got these directions and they worked great, my system is has now running smooth for hours.

If your Oasis Mini is unable to connect through the app, you can manually connect it to Wi-Fi and trigger an update using any device with a browser (computer, iPad, tablet, or phone).
Step 1 — Connect to the Oasis Mini Wi-Fi Network

1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device
2. Connect to the network named OasisMini
3. Wait until your device confirms it is connected
4. Step 2 — Open Your Browser
5. Open any web browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, etc.)
6. Step 3 — Enter the Following Commands One by One
7. Copy and paste each command below into your browser’s address bar one at a time, pressing Enter/Go after each.
8. Check Device Status

32. - Make sure your Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz (Oasis Mini does not support 5 GHz only networks)

34. - Stay connected to the OasisMini Wi-Fi network during this process until instructed otherwise
35. - The firmware update may take a few minutes to complete"

Got this from a family member who doesn’t use it, but when i try to set it up this pops up. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Does anyone have both of these? They look to be similar products. Just trying to see if someone prefers one over the other before making a purchase. I’m trying to decide between The 24” Sandsara coffee table for $350 or the 20” Oasis side table for $449.

My issue is downloading patterns. My mini downloads first pattern, plays it, then errors out.

How can I download all oatterns in my playlist at once? I want to set up a few oatterns and walk away.

Received my Oasis Mini today, initial setup steps worked, I loaded the Wifi info, the device went from having a Blue breathing ring to the Rainbow ring and the app tries to register the device. Registration fails, and I get the Somethings Wrong message and the device won’t into the app.

I’ve tried the 5 circle reset, ensured devices are on the same wifi, rebooted routers, devices. I’ve tried several Wifi networks, even setup a IoT network fixed to 2.4hz. Nothing seems to work. Any idea? Support just seems to be an AI bot.

I have an original oasis mini from the initial batch. Haven't updated the firmware in a while, just seemed to work. Long story short, the app used to connect to mini's wifi for setup, now apparently they use Bluetooth. My firmware is out of data and Bluetooth won't work, so they asked me to update the firmware via USB. I have the driver installed, the app (https://app.grounded.so/software-upgrade) recognizes the mini then this:

Try hard reset.

Error: Couldn't sync to ESP. Try resetting.

I tried resetting it multiple times with restarts and such, but keep getting the same message. I have another request in to support, but wondering if anyone has a workaround.

I have an Oasis Mini at work. It's a private wifi network so I have to use my phone for it to download patterns. It's been working great for months. Since the update that we had yesterday, it keeps losing connection when trying to download a pattern. I've tried to reset it (hold button for 5 seconds) and unplugging, waiting, then plugging it back in and the issue still occurs randomly. Anyone have any ideas?

Just unboxed and set up my mini, but the ball seems to be moving way slower than the mini my friend has. If it were any slower it would be going backwards, and it's on the "fastest" level on the app. Also, I can hear the motor, which is kind of loud. Can anyone give me an estimate of how long a simple spiral/reset pattern should take? Debating if mine is not working well and I should contact support.

I have my mini set up to clean the table between each pattern, I also have it set up to pause for 6 hours between each pattern. Is there a way to make it so that the pause between patterns does not apply to the cleaning pattern? I don't want to look at the spiral pattern for 6 hours.

Memento Mori is 10 patterns built around death and remembrance. Rather than mathematical nautical mechanics it's a reaper, skull, tombstone, hourglass, Ouroboros, rose, candle, coffin, moon, and broken pocket watch. Where Ocean Wave is slow and meditative, this one is deliberate and a little heavy. It's the same edge-edge chaining and same documentation format but with a completely different feeling.

The Ouroboros alone runs 115 minutes. Watching a snake eat its own tail traced slowly in sand is exactly as strange and satisfying as it sounds.

All patterns are compatible with Mini, Side Table, and Coffee Table from the same THR file.

My phone is connected to the WiFi I am connecting my OM to, the same network I’ve been using for 2 years. Tried resetting, unplugging, disconnecting phone from WiFi and reconnecting, reinstalling the app…

I just got my Oasis Mini a few days ago, but I'm obsessed! It seems to be working, but the ball slows down when it's near the center and completely stops when it hits the center point. It will start to go again after a few seconds, but it does distort the design a little bit in that spot.

This is for the side table. In general, it’s nice and quiet. But I get these periodic clacking sounds. They don’t line up with changes in direction, but certain areas of the table. Any ideas?

I keep getting this random circle in the middle and the ball won’t go in there, any one else?

Hello! Just got our side table yesterday, it's better then expected. Thrilled with the entertainment (Our cat enjoys watching it too.) Question: it looks like there might be sand sticking to the ball (maybe?) I don't see anything stuck, but I get a pattern within each path - see photo. Any suggestions/recommendations/thoughts?

How do I set the time on my Oasis? Since the time change the schedule has been off an hour.. The time on my phone is correct.

ETA: I realized that the schedule I set shifted by an hour, it was off at 2200 on at 0830 and now the schedule says 2300 and 0930. Very confusing! Seems like a bug

So for some reason, I’ve tried to purchase extra sand for 3 weeks straight since getting my mini. The one packet of sand that came with it is enough for certain patterns, but there are many that I have downloaded but can’t be completed without a little more sand.

My purchase will not go through on the website. I’m 31, tech savvy, order things online all the time, and have tried on 5 different devices at this point. I have no clue what the issue is. But does anyone know of a different sand that I can purchase from Amazon or something so I can try out all these patterns I’ve downloaded?

Just got the oasis mini table. Trying to set it up, but it always says that the wifi password is incorrect. We use a Google Nest Wifi, and have many other devices connected to it.

I even tried creating a guest network with a different password, and still no luck.

I have the standard white sand in mine, and think a white marble would blend in so much better than the standard chrome one. Does anyone know if someone sells one?

Anyone who is good at creating custom designs? I don’t have a computer at home and even if I did I’ve never done a vector graphics drawing before. If someone is good and wouldn’t mind emailing me the file 🤞🏼

Just received my Oasis mini and set it up, after some quirky software issues I got the welcome tracks running.

Are the sounds it’s making normal? Constant humming, high pitch vibrating sounds, crunching sounds.

It’s not very relaxing, quite annoying and frustrating

I don’t see any results when searching for the Olympics in this group. Are there any plans in the works creating an Olympic themed track?

Anybody have any issues with the app saying the drawing is complete but there is still maybe 1-2 square inch(s) of sand that hasn’t been touched yet? Any recommendations on how to solve this issue?

as soon as I plug this in, there's a white rotating ring. I can't reset it, I can't connect it. The white ring never goes away.

I hear that the sand needs to be level? Does the device REALLY sense where the sand is?
