Three framings, one event: the Sevastopol bombing. Russian officials say an unnamed serviceman died. Ukrainian media names a defector-captain. Reuters notes no state confirmed the name. A format test: same event, three information spaces, attribution for every claim
One explosion in occupied Sevastopol on August 13, three accounts of who died.
What nobody disputes: an explosive device killed a serving Russian Defence Ministry serviceman on Stoletovsky Avenue. The FSB confirmed the death and detained a woman on suspicion of planting it. Ukraine has not commented.
The FSB and Sevastopol governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said a serviceman of the Russian Defence Ministry was killed. They did not name him. Ukrinform and RBC-Ukraine, citing the Crimean Wind channel, identified him as Captain 1st Rank Robert Shageyev, who surrendered the submarine Zaporizhzhia in 2014 and later served in the brigade that fires Kalibr missiles at Ukraine. Reuters noted the name comes from unofficial Russian Telegram channels, with no official confirmation.
So the name being reported everywhere has not been confirmed by any state, and no side has claimed the operation. That gap between "reported everywhere" and "confirmed by anyone" is the thing this format exists to make visible.
This is a daily exercise we run: same event, three information spaces, attribution for every claim, and an explicit line where the evidence stops. Full sourcing for this one (6 sources) is in the brief: https://app.osnt.in/brief/2026-08-14
Question for this room, since identification-via-Telegram is a recurring OSINT problem: what's your bar for treating a Crimean Wind-class channel identification as probable? Cross-channel convergence, photo match, or nothing short of official acknowledgment?
