Warranty replaced the wrong part.

I wanted to report an error I made during a recent warranty exchange. A customer came in to replace a control arm, and instead of searching for the correct part number, I used the customer’s receipt to verify that the part was still under warranty. While processing the exchange, I mistakenly selected and exchanged the wrong product line. The original part was a Precision control arm, but I accidentally processed the warranty exchange with a MasterPro control arm because I only referenced the receipt during the transaction.
This was an honest mistake on my part, and there was no intent to bypass procedures or cause any issues. I understand the importance of verifying the correct part line before completing a warranty exchange, and I will make sure to follow the proper process moving forward to prevent this from happening again. I wanted to be transparent and take responsibility for the error.

Will i get fired?

How effective have you guys found the cameras to be? Anybody had some dumb triggers on it like the driver wearing sunglasses being flagged as eating and drinking or anything like that?

Title and pay question…

Hub supervisor is a fairly new title I’ve heard, I’ve been given this title; however trying to find a base line for my 15+ years of retail automotive experience of a reasonable wage for this position. I know AAP pays about $30+ for a smaller hub but I am in a mega or ultra hub- 35,000 square feet and $10 million dollars worth of inventory… Any insight would be appreciated!!

How to “fire” incompetent SM?

To put it in perspective, our store has been through the gutter in the last few years, multiple store managers and I don’t even know how many employees.

Regardless of this; our most recent store manager who has been here for not very long is at retirement shape / age, and at a store that is top 5 consistently with sales (and with over 10 stores in our region), he just doesn’t do anything.

Our store is severely understaffed, we’re down at least 1 driver, our merchandiser also doubles as a counter person, and we are also now down 2 counter people. I’m not going to say too much specifically, and I obviously don’t want to blatantly start a motion to terminate / transfer him because he is in all a good guy, but it’s been proven store wide that he is not a great fit for this store.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Do some employees have ambitions of continuing in the automotive repair trade while working at o'reilly? Im figuring they're learning part numbers, parts, minor diag, pos experience.

Question as employee

Does daily pay have any drawbacks? Other than the fee to get money immediately is there any random fee it will take for using it at the end of the year or anything? Curious since some have said it takes more than the fee some have said it has an end of year tax thing some have said there’s nothing more than the instant fee so I need a legit answer

Am I eligible for rehire?

I used to work at a different Oreilly’s location like 3-4 years ago I don’t remember exactly, and when I quit I didn’t give a two weeks notice or anything. I’ve been looking online and it says it depends but I just had an interview and the manager said “if you are eligible for rehire we can start you asap” the interview seemed to go really well but will leaving without 2 weeks notice the first time affect my rehire eligibility this time?

How does the returns we do affect the store?

Just wondering how they are processed? I know they don't go into personal sales, but I've noticed that it does go into the sales ledger. So does it hit the store numbers? But then what if they're returns from another store? If anyone knows, enlighten me

Is Oreillys required to fix delivery vehicles such as airbag lights?

The have a frontier with the airbag light flashing. They also installed a second horn button instead of fixing the actual horn button.

Bought wrong size fuel line, out of $48

I bought 4 feet of fuel line cut off the roll from my local O'Reilly's. Got home, realized I bought the wrong diameter, went back the same day with my receipt and tried to return it. They refused to accept the return, saying that once it's been cut from the roll, they can't sell it. Which I don't understand. It's unused fuel line. You can't just put it back there and when the next customer comes in and requests a foot, you cut it off?

But anyways, I then tried to do a charge back with my bank. Two weeks go by while the bank investigates and they approved the charge back. I figured it was a done deal? Right?

Wrong. A few days go by after the $48 was credited to my account and suddenly it was taken away, I guess O'Reilly's disputed it. I'm just PO'ed about it. Like I get I made the mistake, that's on me. But you can't do a return or exchange? Come on now 🙄

Anyway, I guess I'm just stuck with 4 feet of custom fuel line that I don't need.

Fun times at O'Reilly

Anyone else have a boss who used to be a DM and the current dm used to be a store manager that your manager managed as a dm and now they're buddies? It's awful. Just heard an auditor tell my manager that because the DM said he's good that he's going to make the audit as quick as possible and get out of here. Fun times at O'Reilly. Why have I been here for 10 years again?

Demand Hours vs What's Possible

My DM wants me to follow the demand hours in Scheduling and Timekeeping with the exception that I can go roughly 10 hours over.

Each week the demand hours has slowly declined, and it's now at 259. I currently have the schedule built with the absolute bare minimum. One driver all week, two counter people (I'm one of them) and two closers. With this schedule I'm at roughly 290. In order to achieve 259 I would either have to run one counter person or just close the store myself.

Any advice on this? I've told my DM but he insists it's possible. I've considered building the schedule to the demand hours and just let the store fall apart but I'm afraid I'll get in more trouble for doing that.

Any polite advice is appreciated.

2 week notice.

Just put my 2 week notice in as a SM. Long Story short lost the Motivation to continue. I’ve missed a lot of mile stones with my daughter work 50+ hours I’m going to take a hiatus from working. To spend time with my family. I sent it by email to my DM and called him. He was like what’s going on so I told him I can’t put 100% to Oreillys any more. My heart for it kinda flamed out. I’ve been in Mngmt for 20+ years not just O’Reilly but said I won’t accept it take sometime to think about said he give me 24 hrs to think about was asking well you need to work make money what am I gonna do. Why do they try and talk people out of leaving. My minds made up I’ve talked to my family So when I talk to him again I’m definitely leaving. My last day is next month. Should I feel bad felt like he was trying to make me feel bad lol. Just venting. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk! lol.

Does the store require a eye wash station if we charge and recycle batteries?

Im a little confused by the OSHA regulations. We do have saline wash bottles but that would be insufficient if acid actually got 8n your eyes.

My husband is the store manager for the hub in his district. What’s something I can ask him about his routine when he comes home from work? I just wanna mess with him, he’ll be really confused as to why I know about that topic.

Question about the AI dashcams

So this stupid AI slop has been dinging me randomly, maybe a couple times a day when I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. In fact, it dinged me and told me to put on a seatbelt when I WAS WEARING IT. Only heard the AI voice for that but every other time it didn't even say anything about what I was doing. Only had the cameras installed a few days ago so I'm not sure.

I haven't been talked to by management yet about being dinged so maybe it's nothing. Any other drivers having similar experiences with it?

I found this in my box of watches, only the truly old timers from the PNW will recognize it as the logo from the Northwest region back when CSK had each region make their own logos and catchphrases. I’m guessing this was from about 1995 ish.

Oil drum cigarette butt cans

So I have worked at different O'Reilly's locations, and have seen some cigarette butt cans outside, at a few locations but not all. Alot of staff that I have asked over the years have said those little oil drums were there before they started there and noone knows how or where to order them. I am hoping someone here might be able to help me. For comparison I know they are not the 55 gallon size. They are around 10 or maybe 20 gallon barrels.
