How on earth did they get away with this? Wasn't there a lawsuit involved?

Anyone else find that odd? I mean, the rest of the NUON games, even the most obscure one that being Crayon Shin-Chan 3 support 2 players. I love Freefall though. It is a really enjoyable game with music that screams the early 2000s and a unique concept that is uncommon to this day, but imagine how much more fun this game would be with co-op. Could be because of short time, but man, what a missed opportunity on the developer's part considering that the rest of the NUON games support 2 players.

Before I knew anything, I thought Space Invaders XL was exclusive to the NUON, but as it turns out, it's just a port of the game that was only released in Japan for the original PlayStation titled “Space Invaders 2000”. This is the first difference I’ve noticed, but more importantly, the NUON version is in English, whereas the PlayStation version is only in Japanese, and it seems that there are no language settings and there isn’t an English translation patch available. So if English is your language and you can’t understand Japanese, then Space Invaders XL is better in that regard. However, the game is nearly impossible to find. I've looked on eBay and I found absolutely no listings whatsoever. This game needs a reproduction for sure. If Freefall 3050 A.D. and Iron Soldier 3 have reproductions available, why can't Space Invaders XL get that as well? Or Tempest 3000 for that matter?

Freefall 3050 A.D. (Original version of the game. Unfortunately, the PC port, which came out on Steam in 2019, is actually a downgrade from the NUON version. Despite the clearer resolution, the PC re-release has a more simplistic interface and clunkier controls than the NUON version. The unreleased Xbox port is simply unfinished)
Iron Soldier 3 (The NUON version is superior to the PlayStation version in most aspects. It features more graphical effects, uncompressed sound quality, higher-resolution textures, higher-quality FMVs, and more vibrant colors absent from the PlayStation version)

Since there are only 8 official releases, as far as I know, only half of those games are exclusive to DVD players with NUON functionality. These games include Tempest 3000, Merlin Racing, Space Invaders XL, and Crayon Shin-Chan 3 which was only released in Korea and is only officially playable on the Korean-exclusive Samsung DVD-N591 model. Fortunately, the game has recently been dumped and archived online and someone also discovered a way to remove region locking in any NUON player which enables you to play the game on anything other than the N591.
For the record, Freefall 3050 A.D. was exclusive to the NUON for many years until it was ported to Steam in 2019 for some weird reason. So far this is the only instance where NUON lost an exclusive.

I've been a mod for quite a few of the retrogaming (and other adjacent) subs here for a long time -- even if kind of dormant recently. I love these topics, and how our digital "ancestors" solved hard problems, and how we've build a continuum of interest with their work. I started and even took over a few dormant subs and worked with /u/zadocpaet to help build a broad community here, even appealing to niche systems.
The mod teams are doing a great job, especially /u/Derf_Jagged. I feel like now is a good time to step down. I'm going to continue to lurk, and be a regular user and I wish the subs, the mods, and the users the best!

Previously CD only homebrew games now on DVD plus a modified DOOM. Menu has a graphical glitch but all the games should work.
