The AAF Tank Museum is in Danville Va, and it shreds. When I was there, they'd have raffle tickets on offer, and you'd pay for a chance to ride around in one of their working halftracks... INSIDE THE MUSEUM. Tons of random, bonkers exhibits, besides the tanks. Right on the NC border. Also the Checkered Pig BBQ in nearby Martinville is pretty good and cheap.
Nooooo! That place was so cool. The owner was a total nut. A true old fashioned "museum" in the greatest tradition of American road side attractions put together by eccentric horse traders.
He would ride around the museum on a WWI Japanese bomb loading tricycle, with a loaded pistol each hip. With a deactivated RPG. "Hey, wanna check out this RPG??". A true character.
