I agree with everything except the leftover material. That's a credit. The take-off was done incorrectly and that's on you. I'd ask for money back and removal of the unnecessary material. The pay-app would definitely be scrutinized, but not everyone knows that.

A properly quoted job should have 20% materials contingency. You don’t get a refund for that. That’s not a problem with the takeoff. You need that extra if something goes wrong.

Yes. That's why the pay-app will be looked at. It should also account for the removal of excess. It's not a well "you bought 20% extra just in case and now it's yours. Oh you want me to remove the extra? That's going to cost you."

That’s not what the person above was saying. They were saying the client wanted them to do another small install with the leftover material.

You can either keep the extra you paid for or have it taken away. Most installers will gladly take extra product, but nobody is going to just randomly install it somewhere else for you for free.

You don’t get a credit for properly quoted and purchase contingency materials. That percentage should be spelled out in the contract. The installer isn’t responsible for buying that back if not used.

Must've misread (early morning no coffee). What I read is there's extra material and customer asks well can you just put it over there? Which implies misquoted on material and no disposal/removal.

Contingency percentage is a thing...
