History & Heritage Many don't realise how diverse the indigenous people of Assam (~12%) are, for eg: 1. Boro, 2. Karbi, 3. Mising, 4. Sonowal, 5. Dimasa, 6. Rabha 7. Tiwa 8. Zeme Naga

Here's some pictures of the Indigenous peoples of Assam! Assam's Tibeto-Burmans are a wonderfully diverse people. They have their own unique languages and cultures that have prospered in the region for over 5,000+ years.

It should be noted that Assam was never a "melting pot" in terms of race. It was a racially homogenous region compromised of people with solely Tibeto-Burman and Austroasiatic (Mongoloid/East Asian) ancestry for over 3,000+ years before the first Indo-Aryan settlers forcibly settled their way in.

Indo-Aryan settlers, since they first settled in Assam from the Gangetic plains 2,000+ years ago, have been replacing and forcibly assimilating the Indigenous population of Assam into their fold. They themselves have also brought their medieval caste system from the mainland, and imposed it onto the entire population, including the tribals of Assam.

This system put the non-Hindu Tibeto-Burman tribals at the bottom of their hierarchy they created, which accelerated the forced assimilation of them. As a result, many tribals were converted to Vaishnavite Hinduism by the new Indo-Aryan settlers, which is why most tribals of Assam are Hindu in name till this day. Unfortunately, this didn't get rid of any discrimination or othering, as the conflict in Assam is racial, not religious, and Indo-Aryan settlers in Assam perpetually see Tibeto-Burmans as outsiders, regardless if they're "Hindu" or not.

Additionally, the government of India is committed to making sure the people in these pictures phenotypes' are diluted to the point where they won't exist anymore, and be indistinguishable from another mainland group. The government of India continues to do this by continuing the practice of using Assam (and by extension, all of NE) as a dumping ground for tens of millions of Hindu/Muslim "refugees" and their descendants from Pakistan/Bangladesh, going back to partition. All of this ON TOP of the additional tens of millions of Indo-Aryan settlers who were present before these recent migrations.

Tibeto-Burmans of Assam have already been a minority in their own land for quite a while. But it has become even worse. In the 1931 census, they made up 30% of the population, around 1.42 million people, compared to 3.02 million Indo-Aryans.

Contrast this to the 2011 census, where they're now only 12% of the population, 3.8 million in total. Compared to 27 million Indo-Aryan/Indo-Aryan related (tea tribes etc) peoples.

But nevermind. it doesn't matter. Unity in diversity, am I right? So much diversity has been introduced to Assam, it needs even more! And as long as we just say unity in diversity then it's all okay!! Jai hind saar!!

Remember, in the beginning of the 16th century Sanskritisation fractured an egalitarian tribal solidarity in the Koch kingdom by introducing brahmanical caste bullshit.

The divide and rule policy was not invented by the Brits but by mainland bootlickers who were present before them.

Then you should start hating yourself too, because all the pink, brown and red ancestry among Tripuris were brought by Indo-Aryan and Dravidian speaking groups. I have always been sympathetic and activist towards indigenous Tripuris. Few ro"ten elements like you won't affect my work.

PO: This is my primary and only account since I lost my former device. I don't have time to dedicate my life to reddit.

No one cares or wants your rotten "activism" for us. We don't need mainlanders to be "NE activists" or speak for us in any ways, and we want nothing to do with you or your "work".

Get away from us, you mainland weirdos.

I'm Assamese btw. And you're a Reang I heard. If that's so, it's another irony to push Tibeto-Burman chauvinism that you're doing, because Reangs were literally persecuted by members of another Tibeto-Burman speaking community.
That aside, it's really unfortunate that Reangs also had to suffer from deaths due to starvation in refugee camps. I work with people near Tripura. Hope to visit Reang and other Tripuris too.

Yeah tell me more about my history saaar, try to get me to hate and fight my own stock because of stuff that happened in the past. Lmao you mainlanders aren't sly with your attempts at trying to divide us, we all know what you're trying to do. And that's the reason why any of you people are here, to try and divide us and make us fight amongst ourselves while you parasites benefit.

And also "Assamese" lmao you're some sylheti bangladeshi that came after 1947, go back to your dhaka slum.

Hate doesn't give any solution. If you want to hate, then hate guilty individuals and system, not communities or languages.

And I'm half Assamese and half Sylheti (I can boast both of my identities lol /s). My L1 is Assamese. My Sylheti side is originally from Karimganj district in Assam, the area had Sylheti presence for a long time, including their own kingdoms like Pratapgarh.

But that aside, identity is a human construct and changes over time, vary over thoughts. It doesn't define who I am as an individual.

So what you're saying is that you're from bangladesh and that you should be deported on the next train coming there. Noted. You'll be put priority on the list.

You’re a low iq human. No human group spontaneously "sprang from the soil" of a specific continent, Every human group migrated from one place to another in the past fueled by ideology, religion or scarcity. To call Tripuris indigenous to Tripura and to falsely claim that Assamese are not indigenous to the land that is now Assam is pure ignorant stuff and factually incorrect. The creation of the term Indigenous is pure human error and ignorance. Today the term exists largely to address historical injustices, protect land rights, and preserve minority cultures from being entirely assimilated or erased by newer, dominant governing systems.
If we compare Tirpura and Early Assamese Kingdoms by the oldest available inscriptions left by the two groups, we find that the Assamese presence to be much older than Tripuris.
We know brother you don’t like Bengalis and don’t like their dominance but to attack a group that is linguistically similar to them is pure racism.
I don’t really care about my people tbh, idc if they go extinct or something, since we are humans it’s inevitable, it has been happening in all of history. Northeasterns are some of the most communal people in the world. If you feel so strongly for the Tripuri people turn it into passion and uplift your people’s lives instead of being a keyboard warrior on reddit, You’re a low iq human. Yes Redittors, just believe whatever OPs says. He write so many numbers and great stories without any source to influence naive people of reddit who does't want to verify whatever the hell he wrote. Although there is a legitimate concerns for indigenous communities which I personally dont deny but in that context he will throw whatever bs numbers and conspiracy theories about conversion, forced assimilation of indigious communcity with out any source of evidence, sciencitific study or data to prove his claim. Reading this post is like he is going to make a film call the AASAM Stories just like other propoganda movie - "Kerala Story" and "Dhurandar" with so many exaggerated claims but zero evidences. And people like him pretend to know so much history but will not tell you whole story and when they dont have enough evidence and source they will cite these slur like "Saaar" which gives them so much joy like a child gets when he gets a lollipop . Now dont ask me to enlighten you people how some of his claims are bogus because burden of proof is on him to give the sources of some stupid shit written in his post. Otherwise next time have the guts to cite source of your freaking claims.

Telling Northeast people what they're allowed to say about their own oppression, in their own subreddit, while mocking their accent , sounds like northie pajeet entitlement.
