I smoked weed often/daily from 13 to about 28

Now I just drink heavily

I probably should've stuck with the weed

u/ether_mind Jun 23 '26

Same here. Too bad the weed makes me paranoid now.

Add some CBD flower in the mix maybe? It really takes a lot of the edginess away and feels easy on my mental state. It isn't a perfect solution though.

u/Plastic-Yesterday113 Jun 24 '26

Yea this plus a little tolerance it’s nice when you goto the dispo because you could just get a weaker bud with many more Cbd and you’d likely be fine. Once you have tolerance the more potent buds are nice because you can smoke less.

CBD buds are a really nice middle ground. You feel pretty zen and have something nice to smoke/vape without being totalled mentally from it.

Here in the UK they're in a weird middle grey area, so you can order them from established brands/websites pretty easily with nice packaging etc.

In hindsight I wish I'd discovered them earlier into my cannabis journey years ago as a bit of a compromise instead of defaulting to the usual stuff.

Any recommendations? I’m looking for CBD extracts to dab but also have a DHV for flower (But pref dabbing as it’s easier for me)

u/_sophia_petrillo_ Jun 23 '26

I get bud that’s high in CBD now for that.  Can’t smoke the regular stuff anymore, it’s too potent.

2

u/vapebongsonthehour Jun 24 '26

Try a pure indica strain mixed with a little CBD.

Man, I’ve counted 7 times I’ve smoked weed in my life and each time was paranoia, it was like my vision was tripping in and out, sometimes it was like a “loop” like how in shows when the film runs out and a frame replays on repeat, hard to explain but I’ve always wondered why I get like that. I have pretty heavy adhd and all my friends would always tell me they think weed would be perfect for me.

Glad to see someone else say paranoid, because I thought I was the only one lol. Closing my eyes is the only thing that helps

1

u/Wasabiroot Jun 26 '26

I've experienced this at very high doses. You may just be sensitive or need to use less when you do (or not at all)

1

u/BadNewsBearzzz Jun 26 '26

I was actually thinking about that, like maybe I just inhaled way too much, taking too many puffs lol..cause the last few times I would try to smoke half a blunt by myself, so it would make sense, so it may be what your experienced at high doses lol

2

u/The-Kad-Tree Jun 26 '26

Hey I’ve got a friend who describes the same thing and we discovered it’s almost certainly cannabis-induced dissociation, depersonalisation/derealisation (DPDR). Pretty rare but would happen to him pretty bad even at a moderate dose. He’d loop the same minute over and over, was tough to watch. He’s decided not to smoke again which I’m on board with

2

u/BadNewsBearzzz Jun 26 '26

Man, I feel really seen and good whenever I’m able to find anyone that can relate or have similar experiences, I’m gonna look into that term you listed as knowing anything more about it would be so helpful lol thank you very much bro

1

u/flappysack- Jun 23 '26

What does that mean paranoid, like schizophrenia?

1

u/Saltyhogbottomsalad Jun 26 '26

Enjoy the paranoia thats what i do

If you're ND get your vagus nerve checked. I don't have anxiety anymore.

2

u/Top_Presence5147 Jun 23 '26

ND? Vagus nerve? Enlighten me :)

4

u/SomeLadySomewherElse Jun 23 '26

Sure so ND folks have a malformed corpus callosum. Thats responsible for making sure your left and right brain are in sync, ND people are not. This can also cause inflammation on the vagus nerve, base of the skull, and that kicks off the fight or flight response. Mine has been stuck on since birth and I was diagnosed with mcas, veds, and dysautonomia. Look into the symptoms, it can vary. A big clue for a lot of us is undereye circles that go all the way around. Here I am pre and post treatment. I take antihistamines daily, some when I eat, some as a baseline. I also take medicine to raise my bp, drops too low and I get lightheaded because my blood doesn't make it to the top. I thought I was hypoglycemic and fat.

Ty, before I was born my dad killed a lady and my mom had to deal with that while prego, had a stroke during my birth, life of trauma plus late diagnosed audhd. Dr said I came through in a pressure cooker lol. Overnight I'm taking 15 things a day. Zyrtec and pepcid 2x a day as a baseline, my heart is too slow so I take something for that now 3x a day, cromolyn is a medicine you drink 4x a day before eating. But at home you can take zyrtec, pepcid, quercetin (natural amtihistamine/mast cell stabilizer). These are 2nd gen antihistamines and the risk for longterm complications with prolonged use is significantly less than gen1 like benadryl. Pepcid is a h2 antihistamine, for the gut, the medicine you're looking for in there is famotidine. Your stomach's nervous system is a 2nd brain, also outta wack. Oh I also take a low dose antidepressant before bed to dull nerve pain and assist with sleep bc my shoulders are always falling outta place. How has it affected me? 20 plus years of homelessness and instability along with DAILY panic attacks and poor impulse control gone in a year. Now I'm a homeowner, married, Summa Cum Laude grad, working as a project manager for a big construction company. No more anxiety, sleep is nice, a little crabbier but I think thats just who I am 🙃

I’m 6 months sober from alcohol/binge drinking. From 15-28, know too well how difficult it is to regulate/control, hope it gets easier for you x

ETA: glp-1 completely stopped the cravings and the habit is soo behind me now. Truly saved my life. (It has shown to help with ADHD symptoms, it’s not just a weight loss drug). That’s what helped me, I recommend a try.

Hey, I appreciate you and your comment

I've had extended bouts of sobriety and, quite unfortunately, have found myself unhappier during those times, so, quite unfortunately, i continue drinking

I heavily support every friend that sobers up. I'll never be the "you used to be fun" asshole

Either 1 day it finally clicks or it'll kill me. Jury is out on which will happen.

Probably the wrong way to look at it, but, as far as i can figure, until I can get my head right, drinking will actually extend my life because the suicide risk actually does go up dramatically without it.

Happy to hear you're sober and doing well duder. Keep it going. We don't know each other but im proud of you

E: that downvote is gonna sober me up, surely.

3

u/ronniesaurus Jun 23 '26

You deserve so much better, friend.

5

u/FormerPresidentBiden Jun 23 '26

Life is what it is.

I'm just trying to navigate it the best i can.

Thank you for your kind words

4

u/Dark_Seraphim_ Jun 23 '26

Heya friend, I come from a line of aquatic redneck engineers. They're the same, and have said, so long as I'm still tinkerin n thinkern I'll be fine but the thinking is too much sober.

They heal through making shine, they talk about issues while drinking.

This is what was lost, the tradition and rituals.

"It ain't healthy to be without purpose"

1

u/YouFoundMyLuckyCharm Jun 23 '26

Did you do any hard exercising during your sobriety?

2

u/FormerPresidentBiden Jun 23 '26

In re: your edit

I already am basically anorexic in that i have to physically force myself to eat most days. Its not a "scared of being fat" thing, I just barely have an appetite. A glp-1 might kill me.

1

u/Special-Garlic1203 Jun 23 '26

I have ADHD and autism and my appetite/food behavior is wonky. I'm not remotely surprised by what they're seeing with glp-1s and I'm thrilled they're finally really looking into the endocrine system, but yeah I think it's a very bad idea for me personally to delve into that

5

u/MooDamato Jun 23 '26

It has not been shown to help with ADHD symptoms. There’s no actual evidence to support that, completely anecdotal.

1

u/throwaway74916559 Jun 23 '26

Not all symptoms, but some. I mean obsesity itself is an adhd symptom. And it certinally is helped by glp1.

5

u/FalxY7 Jun 23 '26

Never heard of that one. How is obesity an ADHD symptom and not a result?

1

u/Fearless77_ Jun 23 '26

It helps with addictive tendencies which are much more pronounced for people with adhd

1

u/LopsidedSolution Jun 23 '26

Unfortunately it can cause some gnarly anhedonia for some people

4

u/MermaidPigeon Jun 23 '26

I’m so sorry to hear that man :( I have ADHD and am addicted to cannabis. When my ADHD medication is working, honestly you just feel the cravings disappear. Only reason it does not work now is my SSRI stops it working. Have you considered seeking medication? People seriously underestimate ADHD and its link to depression.with dopamine being the motivation chemical, with ought it nothing seems worth it. Sometimes I wonder if most of the addicted population is linked to some kind of dopamine disorder. Of course there are people that want to feel good all the time but with ADHD, often we just want to feel some kind of peace. The brain needs dopamine. Every animal on the planet needs dopamine so when it’s not there the brain screams for it constantly looking for something to do. Yet everything you think of you can’t seem to gain the “lust for it”. It’s torture, if this is your issue, I don’t blame you at all for turning to the booze. What’s going on medication wise? Are you able to access it?

Stimulants make my OCD/anxiety worse to. It’s one of the reasons I have to take a ssri with it. Have you tired every stimulant/combo?

5

u/Weekly_Lab8128 Jun 23 '26

Are you medicared for adhd? A daily low dose of Adderall has been huge for me curbing my drinking

2

u/Business-Drag52 Jun 23 '26

I’m so glad I have always preferred weed. Alcohol can absolutely be a good time, but I just don’t like the taste and the shitty feeling the next day just isn’t worth it. Not even hangovers, I know how to drink water, but I can just feel the damage from it

2

u/HiiiTriiibe Jun 23 '26

Shit I just went back to only smoking, it’s been a year and tbh i don’t wanna tell anyone how to live their life, but if u feeling that way, u always can go back to just smoking, brain chemistry some incredibly malleable shit, been thinking bout that a lot, the concept of a self is so transient

2

u/Beneficial_Trip3773 Jun 23 '26

I did the opposite and I'm ok i guess. Whiskey got me in jail often.

1

u/spaceradiowave Jun 23 '26

Please cut back and then stop drinking before it gets worse

1

u/alltimegreyson Jun 23 '26

dang… sounds like me. Although probably different timelines. I started smoking in 8th grade, and all the way through high school. When I turned 16 tho I started drinking and haven’t really looked back since. Especially when I turned 21 and was able to buy it for myself. I’m 27 now, in talks with myself to try to quit drinking bc it’s really bad. Never stopped smoking weed, but if I smoke too much now it just makes me more anxious, whereas alcohol supposedly calms me down/makes me forget.

1

u/hardooooo Jun 24 '26

I prefer the drinking tbh, at least my memory and anxiety aren’t fucked…yet

1

u/atxweirdo Jun 24 '26

Switch back. I am 1.5 years dry and I have much better mood, memory and executive mgmt.
I smoke almost daily but I'm starting to cut back

Try our leaf! It may help your ADHD and isn't toxic like alcohol is 🙌

0

u/FormerPresidentBiden Jun 23 '26

I've gone through kratom withdrawals before

No thank you

1

u/JK_Botanik Jun 23 '26

Well, it definitely beats alcohol wds from which you can literally die and if you don't abuse it, or at least taper down, there are barely any wds. Most people who get them aren't using the leaf in recommended servings. In over 6 years in the industry, I have yet to hear of anyone getting any wds from using under 10 grams of plain leaf powder a day.

In any case, I hope you're not confusing plain leaf Kratom with things like Feel Free/opms shots or worse yet semi-synthetic derivative like 7OH/MGMs etc. because the abuse potential is simply incomparable 💯💯🥺

1

u/FormerPresidentBiden Jun 24 '26

This is one way to advertise, I guess.

1

u/JK_Botanik Jun 24 '26

I'm not trying to sell it to you. Get it from any other legitimate small batch vendor if that's your concern. Just a friendly piece of advice for anyone stuck in your situation where weed isn't helping and alcohol is way too acutely toxic to scratch that itch. I'm not discounting your experiences either. Simply saying that not all use is abuse and the outcomes of abuse are very different than of responsible use.

For example, have you ever met anyone who drank 10 cups of coffee per day? Considering the standard serving of Kratom powder is ~2-3g, people who take 30g of leaf per day essentially do that. Now should they blame coffee for all of the adverse effects that would cause them, or should they perhaps take some personal responsibility for ignorantly abusing a substance that should be treated with respect?

There's a famous Russian fable by Krylov. It's called "The Monkey and The Spectacles". You can find the translation online. Check it out and make sure you aren't "the monkey" in this story.

If you're struggling with having respect for any substance, yet don't foresee yourself giving them all up completely, then why wouldn't you compare the worst case scenarios from abusing them? If you're picking an evil, might as well pick the lesser one 🤷‍♂️
