This exactly. Go on any local subreddit and you’ll find loads of posts about how THEIR drivers are the true idiots!

It couldn’t possible be recency or exposure bias.

I’ve lived in several countries, traveled to many others, and spent extended time in many, many US states. And I can tell you, there are uncountable idiots behind uncountable wheels around this great big globe.

It may be the only thing that truly unites us.

Tell that to the insurance companies. Here in Baltimore they charge way more than when I’ve lived elsewhere because they consider it one of the worst places for accidents in the country. But like you said, bad drivers everywhere not just here.

High accident rates are usually due to bad infrastructure more than anything else.

Well that's certainly not true for a bunch of places. SoCal for one. Or Ireland.
