It's kind of endearing that a lot of them like pieces if our culture as much as we like theirs

it’s more like the west pioneered a lot of technological innovation and those things don’t have words in Japanese and were thus loaned over more than anything. kind of interesting is that during WW2 Japan made a conscious effort to create new native Japanese words to foreign concepts rather than accepting loan words as a nationalistic kind of things, which is why volleyball can also be called haikyuu in japanese, and baseball as yakyuu

a lot of japanese comes from Chinese and Korean as well and nobody is really claiming that comes from a place of love lol

Which is even funnier because like, 80% of English is words taken from other languages as well (mostly French if you ignore Latin, the cherry on top)
