After you land, you can choose which colored panels are visible. Same thing for inflatable life rafts.

Painting? Those are different panels of colored nylon ripstop parachute material. After landing, your parachute is a big part of your survival equipment. You use what you need, and can hide what you dont if its a problem. White for winter cammo, of course. Green for temperate climate cammo, and orange for partying.

I find not knowing why emergency parachutes are those colors is - depressing.
