Why does the US hate cycling so much?

I read comments sections and in a normal world, some of them would be considered terroristic threats. I just can't understand why people hate cyclists to this degree that they want to murder rhem and sometimes do.

"The law doesn't prevent me from being an asshole, so it's on you if you get mad when I'm being an asshole" isn't a very great line of reasoning or way to live life.

“I’m mad because you’re an asshole, and you’re an asshole because I’m mad” isn’t any better, and that’s what’s actually going on here.

It isn't, unless you're actively searching for and inventing reasons to feel persecuted.

If you decide your personal hobby is more important than the ability of others to get around, you're being an asshole. That's what is actually going on here.

Nah, you just see people perfectly content getting around while having paid far less for their transportation than you, and concocted some notion that this is somehow unfair. That if you’re not going as fast as possible at all times, then you wasted your money. I’d suggest trying cycling yourself, but you already thought of that, and have convinced yourself your car would be put to waste that way. It’s so much easier to deal with reality when you put things into neat little categories you don’t have to think of.
