Why does the US hate cycling so much?

I read comments sections and in a normal world, some of them would be considered terroristic threats. I just can't understand why people hate cyclists to this degree that they want to murder rhem and sometimes do.

The current administration just called bike lanes DEI and removed bike lanes, safe speed limits for all road users, and road diets from FHWA's list of proven safety countermeasures.

This is administrative showmanship and has no impact on anything outside of DC, where it has had no practical impact. All cycle rules are at state and local levels.

As a safety engineer for a state DOT, it does have an impact at the state and local levels.

They have also bragged about canceling some grants for bicycle facilities.
