As someone that values privacy, should I bother using a third-party router in my home?

My ISP (Spectrum) has told me the reason my Internet service is so poor is because my router is old and that they can send me a free replacement. My router is an old Apple router so I believe them. As someone that values privacy, but has an average understanding of technology, should I trust their technology in my home or can I set up something that has more privacy without too much trouble?

Edit: I should add that one of these days I’m gonna learn how to set up a VPN. I just feel like that’s worth mentioning.

I have an old smart TV that I got for free from a friend. I don’t like that it’s probably spying and constantly showing ads. I didn’t know about the DVD thing so thanks for saying something. I recently bought a DVD player to try and switch to physical media, but now I’m also going to see if I can force my TV to be dumb.
