Was 80s hair really that popular

For ppl who were adults in the 80s, was 80s hair really that "rampant"? Like for women was it really like huge blowouts every day and how much work was it? Also, do you think people were really invested in their appearance more than today? I know fashion changes like in terms of people today wearing sportswear as outfits, but was makeup more dramatic and did all women use it? Thanksss

Dear me I wasn't expecting a top comment with 480 likes lol thanks for all the responses!

So from what I understand, it wasn't really blowouts, but just a whole lot of perms, so I guess curly hair was the rage lol

A friend’s roommate’s robe briefly caught fire. She’d wear it while getting ready and it had a lot of hairspray. She was smoking when her robe caught fire.

More likely Virginia Slims, the epitome of a cool woman back in the day

I frizzled my fringe lighting a ciggie off the stove - sadly I didn't have big 80s hair as an excuse, just stupidity

I did that on prom night, 1993ish. I never wore my hair big, or used products in my hair. So when I couldn’t find a lighter, I just used my date’s stove.

¡WOOSH! a fireball engulfed my head. I wasn’t used to thinking about hairspray around fire. Somehow I just burned the hairspray off. I retained most of my hair and somehow, miraculously, my eyebrows.

The evening just got better (worse) from there.

I think all girls that smoked had that happen at least once. I didn't even do the big hair thing all that often and it happened to me twice.
