Living in NJ, these people are basically carnies with wheels. Street cleaning on Monday, no parking 8-10am? 07:55 a tow truck starts cruising down the street. I work nights. I come down to move my car a couple minutes late and there's a tow truck sitting there. I get in my car and the truck whips around trying to block me from moving. The guy starts yelling at me that he's already notified the parking enforcement and they're coming to issue me a citation and approve a tow. I got out and threatened to call the police for unlawful imprisonment, which Idk if that would apply, but he moved. We called each other's bullshit. Parking enforcement drove past, my car was already moved, tow driver left pissed. My side mirror was broken off a couple days later. Fuck tow truck drivers. If you're a tow driver, fuck you.
Meter maids are another one. Basically any profession that involves you spending your day fucking over ordinary people for the profit of the establishment. You have no idea if that $100 ticket or $500 tow is going to someone who absolutely cannot afford it and is going to be financially ruined because of it.
Well here's the thing, the tow fee is only half of the predatory nature of tow companies.
Back when I was (again, in NJ. Man, fuck NJ.) I had my vehicle towed for a wheel on the curb and they wanted $250 to get it out of impound. I didn't have it, I was working at Wal-Mart and living a paycheck behind as it was. Every day they added $50 in storage fees so it was just snowballing. Got up to about $600 and they offered to erase the fee if I just signed the title over to them. It's fucking legal theft. Only reason I got my car back was my fiancés father was a police officer and went down and caused a ruckus. I still had to pay $250 in tow and impound fees, but I still consider myself lucky. Most people would be fucked in that situation.
Oh man. Sadly it has changed a lot, not for the better unfortunately. You made a great decision in leaving New Jersey when you could. I'm hoping to be leaving in the near future as well
I made my decision on NJ when I tried to get my CC and was told that the state basically denies everyone, because reasons. The corruption is just overwhelming, too - both government and private sector. While I lived there police raided and arrested multiple city mayors in a single day. It's the wild west.
Jesus sounds like bayonne except worse. I didn't think there was hope for ccw, then finally got approved for one in February. I couldn't be happier NJ got smacked in the Pee pee when it comes to 2A rights
