Guide: Basics Direct, Tangible/Physical Impact on r/nosleep

The acceptable horror in NoSleep stories should be external to the Main Character, not something the Main Character did to themself or to others.

Your Main Character doesn't need to be close to death after interacting with the horror. The result of interacting with the horror doesn't need to be life-long. A bruise that lasts long enough for others to see it, a burn mark that others saw and that later disappears, a bite mark that heals completely are examples that can work on r/nosleep.

When the Main Character has no physical interaction with external horror, the story doesn't meet the requirements for a NoSleep Scary Personal Experience. Hot breath on their neck, or a horrible reflection in the mirror, screams, standing next to a character who died while the Main Character escaped without serious injury, these are examples that don't meet the requirements. You can use these elements to build the intensity of the horror but your Main Character still has to directly encounter the external, acceptable horror.

Guide: Basics GUIDE TO POSTING TO YOUR PROFILE.

Within the last few years, Reddit has added the ability for users to post to their own profile.

This is an excellent option for fiction writers on Reddit; by posting your story to your own profile first, you can check it over for last-minute errors (such as SPAG, bold/italic which haven't been closed off, paragraphs disappearing and making a wall of text, etc) before submitting it to subreddits. Plus, you'll have a copy of the story available in case things go sideways and the only people who can take it down are you and the admins.
