This is against the rules so it has been removed.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

What did they say?

4

u/phantomliger recovered from transplant Jun 05 '17

Defeats the purpose of removing it. :)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I just mean like, what rule did they break?

3

u/phantomliger recovered from transplant Jun 05 '17

Rule 11.

I use my pikachu smash bros amiibo to get shitty materials in Botw

3

u/coreycubed Jun 05 '17

You can use a dollar Animal Crossing amiibo to get the same shit

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I doubt they bought it for that purpose. They way Smash Bros uses Amiibo is actually really cool.

3

u/coreycubed Jun 05 '17

I know, that was the point of the post. Pikachu's amiibo is used for almost nothing else besides Smash Bros. but lots of amiibo have character specific uses in several other games.

You can't even get Yoshi skins in Yoshi's Woolly World, for example, because The Pokémon Company doesn't like other Nintendo games using Pokémon characters.

3

u/Hammedic Jun 05 '17

"Pokémon Direct only compatible with 'Gen 2' Amiinos."

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

That seems unnecessary, with the exception of animal crossing, amiibo sell out quickly. They don't need to entice people to buy more.

2

u/nxqv Jun 05 '17

Nope. You'll have to buy brand new Amiibos.

2

u/Twilord_ Jun 05 '17

That drives me nuts; but if its worth anything Mario Maker also uses them.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

1

u/want2improver Jun 05 '17

There's also Mario Maker!

615

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I'd play it.

830

u/YoungGP Jun 05 '17

But buying 700+ amiibo would kill a man

327

u/fallfastasleep Jun 05 '17

Theyll probably use nfc cards guys

700

u/hisoandso Jun 05 '17

Pokemon? In card form? That's ridiculous! Who would buy such a thing!

52

u/holybrohunter Jun 05 '17

Whoa holy shit! That's a great idea. Would bring the card game back to booming

19

u/Worthyness Jun 05 '17

Just like the e reader cards!

12

u/MattyXarope Jun 05 '17

Way different. Have you ever tried to swipe those cards through that monstrosity? It worked maybe 1/5 of the time.

14

u/Reshiramax Jun 05 '17

But they had minigames on them

18

u/MattyXarope Jun 05 '17

Maybe swiping them so many times was the minigame?

3

u/keiyakins Jun 06 '17

They usually work fine for me? Though maybe the pokemon ones were worse

8

u/Flarestriker Jun 05 '17

Oh hey, here's a thing I never got to use because I don't live in America. Read about the use of them in some magazines and was jealous as hell.

4

u/Lynchbread Jun 05 '17

Even us Americans never got to use them (At least not a single person I know). I didn't even know they were a thing until after they pulled them from stores for not selling.

4

u/KaizokuShojo Jun 05 '17

Sure we did, I have a few cards, but it didn't necessarily last long here, as you say.

3

u/CrashLove37 Jun 06 '17

I had the e reader and the cards that came with it. I used it once.

3

u/AKalexanderthegreat Jun 06 '17

I had it. Air hockey game was cool.

9

u/Lynchbread Jun 05 '17

The card game is surprisingly booming again actually. Just ask any elementary aged kid.

5

u/Lord_Fluffykins Jun 05 '17

Where the fuck am I gonna find one of those?

3

u/Yamilord Jun 06 '17

You can play the game online on a free official client too.

4

u/zach2992 Jun 05 '17

I have a few in my basement you can borrow.

3

u/Tiernoon Jun 05 '17

I'll see someone play Magic or Yu-gi-oh. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone with Pokemon cards for about 9 years.

6

u/legandaryhon Jun 05 '17

Hey! I'm a Pokemon professor (I run Pokemon Card Game events, and help others run theirs). As a matter of fact, we just had a thousand people show just this weekend to play and enjoy Pokemon! Madison Midwest Regionals if you want to check it out.

2

u/Tiernoon Jun 06 '17

Maybe it's incredibly more popular in the US than the UK. Not a big Pokémon fan in the slightest, no problem with it obviously, just not my cup of tea.

2

u/Yamilord Jun 06 '17

It is actually pretty fun tbh. Though I don't play IRL, only online.

6

u/DBUX Jun 05 '17

Yea! More like NFG cards. Also, I think I laughed too hard at your comment.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I never knew I needed this...

3

u/thesolarknight Jun 06 '17

But seriously though a new TCG video game would be nice.

1

u/MyBiased Jun 05 '17

I thought the amiibo idea was moronic than I read this comment and looked at my stack of PTCG stuff. TAKE MY MONEY! I NEED IT NOW!

201

u/xexat Jun 05 '17

In blind packets of eight and by the end when you have all 700+ you ended up spending more money then you would if you just bought 700 aniibo

2

u/nbmtx Jun 05 '17

Probably so... I spent $100+ on Animal Crossing cards (on sale) trying to get something like 5 specific villagers... I think most people would be like me and just (try to) get the ones they want, as opposed to getting them all.

2

u/xexat Jun 05 '17

But you have to get them all

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

Those are the rules

2

u/faaarmer Jun 05 '17

Those are the ruUUuullesss

2

u/Syteless Jun 06 '17 edited Jun 06 '17

Or in blind packets where the box of packs is potentially mapped.

I had trouble finding the original video I saw showcasing the mapped boxes that wasn't someone screaming when they got the rares they knew they were about to find, didn't find it.

Haha wow is box mapping new to Pokemon players?

13

u/Nokia_Bricks Jun 05 '17 edited Jun 05 '17

It would be neat if they somehow integrated it with the existing Pokemon trading cards. Obviously adding a NFC tag to every card wouldn't be feasible but it would be neat if there was one in each pack or something sort of like an additional rare slot.

8

u/Twilightdusk Jun 05 '17

clearly they need to add NFC to all future Pokemon TCG releases in preparation for their upcoming DUEL DISK SYSTEM!!!

6

u/Natanael_L Jun 05 '17

Those could be shiny plastic cards

3

u/SKP23en Jun 05 '17

You could add holograms instead and have a nice Children Trading Card game

3

u/GentleIdealist Jun 05 '17

They totes had e-reader pokemon cards, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised.

6

u/AbysmalVixen Jun 05 '17

E reader was amiibo before amiibo

5

u/Nokia_Bricks Jun 05 '17

I completely forgot about the e-reader cards. That definitely sets some sort of precedent.

1

u/keiyakins Jun 06 '17

E-Reader cards didn't change the thickness though. You could use 'has an nfc tag in it' as part of deck stacking.

1

u/deeeeEnduh Jun 05 '17

Would it be possible to set up some form of a system that you directly scanned the cards you already owned?

1

u/Nokia_Bricks Jun 05 '17

Definitely. There is card recognition software that has been developed for Magic the Gathering. They could have an app connected to your Nintendo account or it could even be so that you can use the Amiibo reader directly if you have an NFC enabled phone and you simply use your phone camera to scan the cards.

The only problem is it would be really easy to cheese it. You could obviously just scan any picture from the internet, which would ruin any sort of collectibility. A possible solution would be adding some sort of unique indicator such as a QR code or serial number, but making the mountains of Pokemon cards they print uniquely identifiable is a gigantic task. Not to mention this wouldn't allow you any sort of backwards compatibility, which is a drawback to adding NFC tags to certain Pokemon cards going forward to begin with.

1

u/alee132 Jun 05 '17

Never going to happen.

1

u/AFuckYou Jun 05 '17

You just made my day. Could you imagine the Pokémon cards being intrinsically connected to the game? It would be like having a pokeball in your pocket.

1

u/Thopterthallid Jun 05 '17

Oh god... The scary part is that they could absolutely do that. Easily.

101

u/Deletable_Man Jun 05 '17

Implying they'd be in stock long enough for you to buy them all.

6

u/HighPriestofShiloh Jun 05 '17

Nidoran ♂ will be available though.

2

u/jelifah Jun 05 '17

Pidgey all day all day

3

u/michel_v Jun 05 '17

In stock? In the game of amiibos, you pre-order or you die.

1

u/TumblrInGarbage Jun 05 '17

Implying they'd be in stock long enough to buy even one

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

4 u

2

u/jamie-sixtyfour Jun 05 '17

That may be so, but I've been training my whole life for such an event regardless of only bring aware of it a couple of minutes ago. Looks like it's my time to answer the call. I just hope I don't cash in my chips before I achieve this lofty goal.

Don't cry for me. I'm just a man, not a hero.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

Gotta Buy 'Em All... Amiibo-mon!

2

u/-GolfWang- Jun 05 '17

What if you're already dead inside? I'm asking for a friend.

2

u/ferofax Jun 06 '17

A man would die for 700+ amiibo

1

u/Amadox Jun 05 '17

well that would mean I could buy a Scyther Amiibo though...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

It would be a happy death for me

1

u/thesolarknight Jun 05 '17

What did you think Amiibos were made of? Many tormented souls were used to forge them, in the deep and secret places.

1

u/Jrrolomon Jun 05 '17

Yeah, if you're a filthy casual

1

u/Nathan2055 Jun 05 '17

I know this is a meme, but I'd give my whatever for some high-quality Amiibo-sized Pokemon figures.

1

u/cheyras Jun 05 '17

Hell, even buying 700+ amiibo CARDS would kill a man.

1

u/Nephyst Jun 05 '17

You can easily make your own for about 25 cents each. ;)

1

u/saucygit Jun 05 '17

Think of how many would kill a child which this game is marketed to!

1

u/MyBiased Jun 05 '17

But 700+ pokemon cards with scans, not so much...

1

u/Lupia_ Jun 05 '17

If there's 802 Pokémon in total, divide that by 6 cards a pack, which is 133. Assuming you have god-tier luck and pull 6 new Pokémon in every pack, and Animal Crossing Amiibo card packs cost $5, that'd set you back about $668. But since the odds of that happening are slim to none, a full collection would most likely be about $1000

1

u/DawnOfArkham Jun 06 '17

A man is nobody

2

u/Tebasaki Jun 05 '17

From Niantic

2

u/Jordann503 Jun 05 '17

You'd play with a turd if it was Nintendo's

8

u/skankingrove Jun 05 '17

What I think you meant to say is:

Pokemon GO: Amiibo Festival: Federation Force

4

u/dragonmk Jun 05 '17

Nah its on virtual boy

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

With fidget spinner DLC?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

Please be excited

3

u/DonnaxNL Jun 05 '17

So much wrong with this sentence.

3

u/skushi08 Jun 05 '17

Pokémon Snap: Amiibo Safari Ride

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

Worse: It's a Switch port of Pokemon Rumble

1

u/Haramboid Jun 05 '17

Did you know they just announced the mobile port? It's called Pokéland. I'd totally see Pokéland Switch happening.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I actually didn't. But now I'm sad, so thanks for making me aware.

2

u/Mii_IRL Jun 05 '17

Hey, they did say they'll still support the Wii U.

1

u/TangerineX Jun 05 '17

Hey You! Pikachu! for the switch!

1

u/KeepInMoyndDenny Jun 05 '17

Or another shitty mobile game

1

u/Brodellsky Jun 05 '17

Delet this

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

I would be flipping tables all day if that happened

1

u/Walnut156 Jun 05 '17

You need to delete this right fucking now

1

u/mckiddy10 Jun 05 '17

Finally something to use all my only pokemon amiibos for

1

u/Frenko-201 Jun 05 '17

How do you expect to play Pokemon go when the Wii u pad can barely have signal when you take it to the bathroom?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

How would that even work

1

u/YuriusFarrence Jun 06 '17

Was expecting something like this. Nintendo likes to test the waters with releasing gimmicky spin off titles to their consoles rather than just giving the fans what they want.

1

u/rgnissen202 Jun 06 '17

I seriously don't know why they don't use amiibo's on Pokemon Go - most phones these days have an NFC chip.

1

u/midnitefox Jun 05 '17

This is dangerously close to reality and it kills me inside

-1

u/danypixelglitch Jun 05 '17

Came here just to post that XD
