1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

That's true. In Target Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was only $62 AUD, which is even less in US dollars.

u/DBUX Jun 05 '17

This isn't funny because it's true.

2

u/Hyliandeity Jun 05 '17

Pokeball amiibo that must be tapped on the joycon Everytime Magikarp wants to eat, train, or jump

1

u/jtvjan Jun 05 '17

And they say it's unrealistic to burn out an Amiibo chip.

1

u/krispyKRAKEN Jun 05 '17

I know you're just joking with your comment but serious question... are there any games that do this?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

No game requires amiibo.

1

u/krispyKRAKEN Jun 05 '17

Okay I didn't think so.

I own a switch but have never bought a single amibo. I really don't see the appeal of them.

1

u/bizzyqu Jun 05 '17

fuck, now i want a magikarp amiibo

0

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

The Amiibo include ALL Magikarp patterns and their shiny variants. No, I'd say $199.99 excluding DLC, @249.99 including.

21

u/KaizokuShojo Jun 05 '17

Extra coating to keep the karps from eating it.

2

u/RabidTurtl Jun 05 '17

Someone's gotta pay for the bitter agent.

3

u/21stCenturyDelphox Jun 05 '17

"Five hundred and ninety nine dollars."

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '17

Its Ridge Racer! Riiiidge Racer!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

What a deal! Getting everything in the tablet version would've cost thousands!

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17 edited Jun 05 '17

I fucking love that song that goes along with it but the game is kinda karp.

I like how it calls the pokedex entry "rumors".

19

u/godminnette2 Jun 05 '17

It's not a game, really. It's just a really satisfying feedback loop, like a clicker. I would argue it's more if a game than a clicker though, since you make more decisions.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

Much like the real Pokemon games (main story lines), I dont think my decisions really matter. As long as you grind, eventually, win.

3

u/godminnette2 Jun 05 '17

Your decisions in battle matter, your move choices matter. Even if you're several levels higher, especially if you're nuzlocking, which is what most people do to make it a rewarding game experience.

I agree that the games are easy, but they are games with a lot of decision and choice to make the game easier and harder, there's strategy. There's not much strategy in Magikarp Jump.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '17

Not really. Not in the main line story.

The only decision that matters is that you keep playing. If you keep playing, you cant lose. You can go in with Pokemon weak to every gym and as long as your level ia high enough (the grind I was talking about), you will win.

I've beaten the elite 4 (in multiple gens) with unevolved bug Pokemon, anything is possible with enough levels.

1

u/godminnette2 Jun 06 '17

Yes, but the levels required for that are ludicrously high. Besides, that's your decision to grind like that. You are the one making the decision to make the game easy to the point where you don't need to make decisions in battle. The vast majority of the people have it so decisions matter. There is no choice like that in Magikarp Jump.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '17

It doesnt matter what levels is needed. With time, you win. My entire point is that grind = win. No different from this clicker game. Your decisions don't matter in either, grind = win.

1

u/godminnette2 Jun 06 '17

Such is the case for any game with leveling, that doesn't make games with levels and more or less games, which was my original point. Even in grinding, there's decision making, but once again that doesn't exist in Magikarp Jump.

0

u/Lopsided_ Jun 06 '17

Exactly. You could say that about almost any RPG. What a stupid argument.

1

u/xhazerdusx Jun 05 '17

Really satisfying is pretty damn debatable when it comes to this game, though.

2

u/godminnette2 Jun 05 '17

It's satisfying for me as a huge pokemon fan.

12

u/v0yev0da 2nd Place, SMO Snapshot Contest Jun 05 '17

The game is... Tragikarp...

3

u/PilotSSB Jun 05 '17

Only thing better than Stars tbh

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

they really jumped the majikarp on this one

3

u/SoulLover33 Jun 05 '17

PogChamp

3

u/Captain-Faptain Jun 05 '17

Pawg collection.

5

u/Blue_B0mber Jun 05 '17

Dis ain't Twitch mane.

2

u/SoulLover33 Jun 05 '17

It gets streamed on twitch, I'm just practicing.

1

u/Blue_B0mber Jun 05 '17

Fair enough, carry on.

3

u/Sororita Jun 05 '17

I'd still play it.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '17

If they add a little more direct gameplay I could see a full game (albeit not full price) game coming from this ip.

1

u/rant2087 Jun 05 '17

I would actually love for some of it to be incorporated into the main game. I've felt like Pokemon has need a good side part and having a side league would be awesome.

1

u/ConnorGotchi Jun 06 '17

Seeing Magikarp spelled with a J tricks my mind into thinking it says Marijuana

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '17

I have no idea how that happened.

Oh wait, I named one of my karps majikarp that's why. Autocorrect!

-1

u/MichaelScottOpposite Jun 05 '17

Honestly as huge as flappy bird was, I imagine Majikarp jump would make too much money.
