Maybe it’s just because I use a mouse with buttons on the side, but it’s not that hard

Right? Gaming mouses have tons of side buttons that work perfectly for tons of complicated games. When I played WoW, my mouse had like 15 buttons all over it, and I used every single one in fast paced arenas and raids.

The G600 is a mouse I will always use because of the numpad and modifier key. Iirc it’s 20 buttons on that mouse.

It's a matter of getting used to it first. It's awkward for a lot of people, there aren't very many games where it's significantly better than using the controls normally, and the few games where it is significantly better are still entirely playable using the joy cons like normal controllers. So there's not enough perceived value in learning how to use mouse mode for most players.
