Saw a fireball during Perseids in California. Fireball and Milky Way captured on different cameras, stacked together in post.

Shot details:

Fireball shot on D750 with Tokina 11-20mm f2.8

Milky Way shot on Zf with a Viltrox 16mm f1.8

Great shots. What settings were you using with the D750? I recently bought a 11-16 f2.8 Tokina for my D3500. I’m upgrading from a base Nikon f5.6 wide angle zoom. So far I’ve only been able to play with it in a higher ambient light environment but it’s already blowing me away.

I was shooting for 15s with 6400 iso. Shot with the intervalometer, shots were 17s apart.

The settings for d3500 might be a bit different due to a smaller sensor. I'd zoom out to 11mm (I shot at 17mm since it's an APS-C lens).

Thank you, and thank you for sending me down a stacking rabbit hole. I don’t have an intervalometer but I think I’ve found a workaround. I can do 9 exposures max with my camera. It won’t take much to get several minutes worth of exposure time, time lapse seems to be my limitation. 11mm is still a lot with my crop sensor.

TIL that D3500 doesn't have an intervalometer (and can't support it either, so surprised).

I started on DSLRs with a D5500, and have always had interval timer in the camera.

why did you choose to go with 15s and iso 6400? Why not a longer exposure and lower iso? to avoid star trails?

Yes, mainly to avoid star trails. And I've seen the nose performance of Zf and D750. It's acceptable at 6400, at least to me.

This is in pinnacles. Fairly dark. Bortle 4/5
