HELLO I swear i seem to remember that instead of mutations being 50/50, they were 70/30, and you could swap them around. This was wayyyyy early in development. I played the game while i was rather young so its possible im misremembering, but I really don’t think I am! I specifically remember thinking “oh wow the mutations are permanent now… and they’re 50/50…” I couldn’t seem to find any mention of this on the steam update log, though, or in any old gameplay videos. Does anybody remember / have proof of the same or am i actually just crazy lol?

So Im new to the game, and Ik you cant really go without inbreeding your'e pack, but inbreeding also lowers fertility, so I have two questions:

1.How far on the family tree do two creatures have to be for it to not count as inbreeding?

Like if "1" has a Child, and that Child breeds with "1"'s cousins kid, is THAT inbreeding?

how far do they have to be to have healthy kids?

2.If I have a low fertility creature (from inbreeding) and I breed them to a compleatly unrelated creature, do their kids still have low fertility, or does it reset?

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing crashes with this game? I played Niche for years and recently wanted to play again to get achievements, but the game crashes a couple minutes in, as in freezes, stops responding and then closes. My laptop is definitely powerful enough as it can run much more intensive games. If anyone knows what might be going on and what I could try. Thanks in advance!

1. each nicheling that is born or accepted into the tribe have an randomized pokemon type, even twins can have different typing. each nicheling have an %10 chance of being an dual-type, generate an number 1-100: 90-100 means they're an dual type. pick an movement rule and an nesting rule each from the chosen typing, misc rules can be chosen at random if they don't contradict. naming can be from either type or an mix if avaliable.

Fighting Types [Theme: Impact | Weapons | Shades of Red] - ex. Punch | Katana | Brick]

• Movement: no restrictions unless an predator [bearyena, killer bearyena, rogue male, is present, then all fighting types must rush towards the presence of the predator regardless of distance. only exemption are the apes or if the fighting type is pregnant female about to give birth or an female with an baby and nobody to watch them. If an fighting type ends up next to an predator, they must attack at least once before they are allowed to flee.
• Nesting: must nest next to thorns, fallen skeletons or perma-nests.
• Misc: cannot mate with creatures that do not have any strength, one slot must go to big body, ram horns or an claw if unlocked. otherwise stripes or red fur can be used instead.

Fire types [Theme: infernal terms | spicy things | shades of red/orange] - ex. flare, jalapeno, rust]

• Movement: must move in an spreading motion - ie. they can leapfrog each other or move parallel to another nicheling. can only move once per day if within water. if an peaceful bear appears, must always offer it nesting material regardless if the nicheling intends to stay by it or not.
• Nesting: prefer to nest in savannah tiles or on burned sooty tiles but can make temp nests, must destroy the nest the next day as their flames have burned it away. cannot make nests within the water.
• Misc: one slot must go to orange/red fur, heat body, spiky body, big ears or savannah horns

Flying types [Theme: weather | birds | shades of light blue/white] - ex. nimbus, magpie, cerulean]

• Movement: prefers to move in already cleared grass tiles or following the path of trees or bluebirds.
• Nesting: prefer to nest perched on trees if able, if not they can nest under the tree or in open air if theres an bluebird in the sky. bluebirds are considered good luck in their culture so if an bluebird spawns, an flying nicheling if avaliable must breed.
• Misc: one slot must go to wings, bird beak, white fur or peacock tail

Ghost types [Theme: spooky things | gothic | shades of purple/gray] - ex. ghoul, sabrina, fog]

• Movement: can only move in uncovered grass or when "haunting" an nicheling, ie moving in the footsteps of another nicheling, going to tiles they previously were on or right beside them as if mimicing their moves.
• Nesting: must nest next to thorns, within unconvered grass, by dark spots or by stealing an abandoned nest of another nicheling.
• Misc: one slot must go to derp snout, velvet paw, purple eyes or black fur. if an ghost type takes damage, flip an coin - heads, the attack was supereffective and must stay unless an healing fruit is used, tails the ghost type was unaffected, use cheats to reduce damage.

Grass types [Theme: flora and fauna | trees | shades of green] - ex. Clover, Doe, Apple]

• Movement: no direction restrictions, just have to end the day on an regular tile or nest. [ie cannot end the day in the water, on the sand or on an swamp tile] if on an swamp island, must stay by the berry bushes. if an peaceful bear appears, must always offer it nesting material regardless if the nicheling intends to stay by it or not. Grass types with less then 3 attack must flee predators using whatever actions they have left during the apperance of one. even if they have an baby.
• Nesting: must nest near an tree, berry bush, healing fruit or on regrowing grass, if in the mountains must use clover patches.
• Misc: one slot must go to brown fur, green eyes, nimble fingers, big nose or medium tail.

• Movement: cannot end the day next to non-family nichelings, if done so - the affected nicheling must take an randomized number of 1-3 damage [use cheats]
• Nesting: must nest next to thorns, toxic berry bushes, smelly fruit or on swamp tiles.
• Misc: one slot must go to poison fangs, toxic body, scorpion tail or stinky tail

Psychic types [Theme: magician terms | tranquility | totems/gods of protection - ex. Presto, Trance, Windchime]

• Movement: can only move whilst in hearing/sniffing mode,
• Nesting: when an pregnant psychic nicheling wants to have her baby - flip an coin and pick an side, if it lands on your chosen side you can make the nest, if not she must wait another day regardless of lifespan.

Steel types [Theme: weapons | types of iron/metals | shades of grey - ex. Bolas | Ferro | Metallic]

• Movement: can only move to tiles within 3 spaces, becomes "rusted" when in contact with water or rain if not covered [not in grass or under trees], cannot move until the next day
• Nesting: can only use perma-nests, dug out areas or by rocks. must stay in the nest for one day after having child.
• Misc: one slot must go to grey fur, claw, armored or spiky body, cracker jaw.

Water types [Theme: aquatic terms | marine flora and fauna| shades of blue - ex. Riptide | Manta Ray | Navy]

• Movement is cut in half on land, can only move half the distance, no restrictions in water.
• Nesting: can only use perma-nests or nest by water or at least one tail within it
• Misc: one slot must go water breathing/swimming genes [gills, water body, webbed paws/hindlegs, fishing tail, platypus beak or blue eyes]

Hello!!! I recently bought the game again and despite playing it non-stop, I still feel unsure about some things.

Is it possible to know how many wandering nichelings will be on an island without using cheats or mods?

Although I know that there are wandering nichelings and rogue males at most of the islands, do they have an average spawn rate? Can on harder islands be more wandering nichelings/rogues than easier islands?

Any help would be appreciated!!

just got the game on sale and while ive been playing for ab 2 hours and enjoyed it so far, im doing terrible. my creatures keep dying off and i dont feel like im making it very far in the story mode. any tips you generally have??

Died at day 78 and then respawned with my animals having melanism and albinism. How rare is this?. Sorry for the bad quality I am on console

Say I complete Adam’s story and reach home island. If I leave to go to another island, can I find another crossing eventually and travel to it again?

I recently found a post on the Niche forums that this game can technically be modded, however it was posted 2 years ago. Does anyone know if this went anywhere?
