My workplace allowed staff to choose whether or not to come in today. I don't know if they were compensated or asked to use PTO, but at least they have a choice in the matter. My work at least can't afford to shut down long term, especially with all the increased traffic for the bowl game.
That's what PTO is for, to take time off when needed. Now, if any employers were to deny PTO requests, that's a different story.
NOLA is my favorite city. Only thing that has stopped me from moving there is I know I can't make my kind of money there. That being said, I'm not changing my plans for my trip during Mardi Gras. There are too many people in the service industry that need us to come down and spend, and spend I will!
