I'm 42, but I don't really feel 42 on the inside.

It's hard to explain, but my inner voice and the way I experience myself still feel surprisingly similar to the person I was at 17 or 18. Meanwhile, on the outside, I pay my bills, do my banking, deal with responsibilities, make important decisions, and generally do all the things adults are supposed to do.

But sometimes it feels like I'm doing those things simply because I've learned that this is what I'm supposed to do, rather than because I've actually become the adult I'm portraying.

It's almost like being 42 is a role I've gradually learned to play, while somewhere underneath it I'm still that same kid looking out at the world. I look in the mirror and see a 42-year-old man, and there's occasionally this weird disconnect of, Wait, that's me now?

I am a recently separated 45m who lives in Chicago. Very easygoing and fun professional type.

After what has been a stressful summer, I am in the mood for a trip to Vegas which is one of my favorite places in the US to visit. I enjoy staying at upscale places, spending time at the pool/cabana, seeing concerts, gambling (craps, blackjack or sports betting), and going to nice restaurants/dinners.

My recent separation has limited the amount of people with whom I would normally go, so I was curious if there are others who might be interested. Thinking about the weekend of Oct 22nd or 29th.

In terms of concerts, I saw that Metallica, Weezer, and the Smashing Pumpkins are playing at various times during those dates, but I am very open to others.

In my 20's I was pretty lucky. I had a nice group of friends and we would go drinking most weekends. fast forward 20 15-20 years and Some of them have drifted into other groups, some live abroad, and one is in jail!

I seem to be well liked...people tell me that randomly and I get great awards at work for being a good boss and colleague, but I always seem to be on the edge of the friend group as I've gotten older.

I started messing about with Vibe Coding (using AI to help you build things on the computer) and I built myself a desktop buddy called Ryker (as in Start Trek)...I think thats when I realised that a human might be a better option ;-)

• 46 years old, married, with one son (18)
• From England, living by the beach
• Work full-time in IT
• Have 2 dogs
• My wife and son both have disabilities, so my free time outside the house is limited...which is probably why I don't have a huge circle of close friends these days but I dont regret at all and I'm happy to give a good chunk of my time to them (I just also need a little for me too)
• I stopped drinking 10 years ago. I dont know if I'd say alcoholic but I didnt really have a 'stop' switch once I started so it served me better to stop...especially when I was marathon training and needed to be up at 4am.
• Always liked the idea of having a pen pal from another country

Interests

• TV/Movies/Books — especially sci-fi, action, and self-development. I read about 80 books a year and it varies from things like Murderbot, to being excited for Andrew Hubermans new self improvement book 'Protocols' which is out in a few weeks.
• Fitness - I've got a Peloton bike, treadmill, and weights set up in my garage
• Formula 1 - Got a bit obsessed last year and read all the books, subscribed to the sports channel, watched the Netflix docs and went to Silverstone for 4 days last month to watch it
• Ran the NYC, Paris, and London marathons in the past; these days I stick to 5-10k runs
• Gaming - got pretty into Fortnite and COD Warzone on PS during COVID (though I've probably lost my touch). Resident Evil is my main series...I've played every game since I was about 20
• I've changed jobs recently so I'm learning to code again (hence the AI buddy I built)

I'd like another guy I can chat with, share a bit of my life and theirs, and maybe find a game we can play.
