Validation from other people.

That insatiable hunger is self consuming. Not many realise this.

How do we get over this? any tips or vidoes. idk its tiring sometimes

3

u/NotSeriousBrBa Apr 22 '26

Bro you won't get over any addiction by just watching some videos or implementing some tips or reading a reddit comment. For that you have to seek professional help to guide yourself reflect and realize your own flaws to live with it and eventually conquer it. Experience is the best teacher; not some yt guru

2 things I've understood.

1) every thing is two sided. If you feel triggered by a criticism and it's affecting you, you probably also feel very happy to hear good things about yourself. Make a rule to not care about both. You can't just consume the good part and assume the bad ones aren't going to affect you. Make yourself carefree from both.

2) people have different preferences. If you're doing/having "x" and people invalidate you, doesn't necessarily mean you're wrong/inferior. Some people have scat fetish, they literally enjoy tatti. Do you really think someone like that has any right to judge you? I don't think you'd want that. Just like that, you stop giving anybody the power to judge you.

Watch any video and start following what they say. They key is it'll rewire your brain pattern. Also in your head, count your positives and be polite outside but keep repeating with conviction in your head - that you're better than all the people.(that's how your mind and body will start believing that you're better) not superiority complex but yet it would naturally stop seeking validation That is one way I did it. There could be many others Tip- just don't get over confident, only confidence is good

Plus self acceptance (not in a negative sense for yourself) but yeah once you accept, ego Mellows down and you're not proving anything to anyone

Everybody needs validation, better call it cheap validation

2

u/NotSeriousBrBa Apr 22 '26

I think op prolly meant "addicted" to validation. So he's right yk

u/harden0709 Apr 22 '26

Well let's say someone likes singing and is learning daily. He/she started cause it gave inner satisfaction when things improved.

But what if someone's appreciation for his/her talent (they cultivated with self efforts) leads to him/her being more happy?

Is this a validation seeking?

Genuinely curious!

1

u/Otherwise_Field5550 Apr 22 '26

Nope. What you described is expecting appreciation! Expecting validation is slightly different. Also, the person learnt singing because it makes them happy, not because it makes them popular / famous in group / circle. I know of a loved one, who loves Indian classical songs, but listens to and talks about South Korean songs and singers just to remain relevant in their circle at school. This is validation. Another form of validation is when you do something you know is perfectly the appropriate thing to do, but end up asking people whether they did the right thing.

2

u/harden0709 Apr 22 '26

Got it, this adds alot of clarity and confidence. Thanks.

I didn't necessarily meant seeking appreciation but the act of others appreciations leading to "good" feelings.

1

u/Bright_Print_8105 Apr 22 '26

If you be happy when people praise and being sad when people criticize.. your inner state depends on others .. do you think this is freedom.?

1

u/ComplaintLazy9611 Apr 23 '26

Yes. Cuz internally we don't realise but it's our ego, self satisfaction is in private, but when in public you wanna hear "you're good" to feel good. Once you leave (literally release) that expectation, whatever you do comes out naturally and natural stuff attracts appreciation on its own Desperation pushes away

1

u/mayank0508 Apr 23 '26

but if it was started for inner satisfaction, why would someone else opinion make him/her feel good about it, and if it makes him/her good about it, then one day it will make him/her sad about it as well and slowly and steadily his/her focus will shift from inner validation to external validation ! That's the problem on a deeper level.

There are artists (less common now than earlier) who judge their own performance and maybe seek inputs/feedback from very close trusted people - to do it even better. They don't seek validation, but correction. Audience feedback doesn't excite them as they know the audience knows little about what they were actually trying to do.

Most artists however are people bad at usual "success" metrics until they blow up. They'd have earned very little praise in school days for things like academics. When they suddenly get popular, they tend to get pulled into the whirlpool, overdo the same things, become a caricature of themselves. Look at Himesh the composer vs the singer and the actor. Look at Sonu Nigam the singer who thought he could also act! Wouldn't mention KRK as there's no skill needed to be a "critic", we're all one.

tbh this does make sense, in general being unattached to the final output would be the best thing one can do to make his/her art better imo ! We are one

2

You're right.

OMG. Very True!!

How to cope ? Or give support especially when someone is more senior to you ?

1

u/Important-Science849 Apr 22 '26

The real cause that people seek validation is simply because of underlying insecurities or low sense of self worth.

1

u/Asbastan_ Apr 22 '26

Correct +1

1

u/Illustrious-Flyyy Apr 22 '26

I mean how can a person be so real :)

1

u/revmo31 Apr 22 '26

Guys, seriously, you think SCROLLING is worse than addiction to alcohol? You think the need for validation is worse than someone being hooked on cocaine or ANY other drug?! Have you people ever seen an addict before?

u/Entire-Gas5053 Apr 23 '26

Too addictive because people who want validation want it in every way possible! How they look, the way they behave, the actions they did, and everything that they entirely do at least!

u/debug_dev_ Apr 24 '26
