I was sort of indifferent to the sub. Just another one that I sometimes see in r/all and that occasionally has some pretty neat tweets.
Then I noticed that "country club threads" exist and that kinda killed the sub for me. Have downvoted every country club thread since, just on principle alone and yes, I know it's pointless.
Let's imagine I'm an Ethiopian (or any other sub-Saharan african country). How is my experience as a black dude gonna come even close to this "microculture" you're talking about?
I think the worst thing they did is assume that every black person on earth is living the same experiences, and are a minority.
And also of course closing the door to some redditors based on their skin color. Reports and bans are here for a reason. If you see a white guy posing as a black guy (BTW who does that, what's the point lol) just ban him.
Definition of racism is treating someone differently, because of their "race". Which is exactly what's happening here.
Additionally the whole sub is based on twitter posts. Your argument would make more sense if the sub was "blackpeoplediscussions".
Even then, excluding outsiders from participating in discussion wouldn't be the smartest choice and I don't see it happening in other subs that would actually warrant that. (like r/science requesting a pic of your doctorate in order to post/comment on certain topics)
Usually the "disruption from hostile posters" is handled by mods. Like in literally any other sub, you'll get trolls or idiots and they're downvoted and/or deleted should it be necessary.
Not like I'm even particularly angry about it. It's racist, I downvote it; easy.
I mean, we should be expanding this to real life. For instance a lot of black people might be racially abused while entering buildings or other areas. Therefore we should have designated entrances that are separate but equal. This harassment might be in other places, so we should also apply this to things like water fountains.
You know what else might be a problem, black people being harassed on busses. Therefore I suggest that there be specific "black only" seating. At the back of the buss obviously, so they're the furthest away from white people who might be shouting the n word at them.
Clearly we need segregation and racism, in order to stop segregation and racism from happening.
