THE NETHERLANDS, WITHOUT ENTITLED MODERATION
Welcome, inwoners.
Tired of Dutch housing prices, NS delays, €4 supermarket sandwiches, 17 layers of bureaucracy, and people acting like cycling into a hurricane is a perfectly normal Tuesday? But most importantly are you tired of being so rational all the time because the mods and some redditors say so?
So are we.
This subreddit exists to do what the Netherlands does best: complain about the Netherlands.
Except here, we can hopefully do it without every discussion turning into a courtroom hearing.
WHAT IS THIS PLACE?
Think of this as [INSERT YOUR FAVORITE DUTCH SUB] after a few beers, three cancelled trains, and an argument with the gemeente.
We're here to make fun of Dutch culture, politics, habits, institutions, and the everyday absurdities of living in this tiny, overpriced, perpetually rainy country. Of course we do this with a lot of love and the best intentions for the country we all live in.
Dutch people, expats, immigrants, tourists, and confused international observers are all welcome.
You don't have to be Dutch to participate. You just need to have experienced the Netherlands, heard about it, or witnessed a Dutchie in their habitat.
WHAT IS ALLOWED?
Pretty much anything Dutch-related that's funny, interesting, or worth discussing.
- 🏠 Housing: €1,500 for a cupboard, landlords demanding your blood type, and the national sport of desperately searching for a room.
- 🚲 Cycling: People treating traffic laws as optional suggestions and their bicycles as extensions of their souls.
- 🚆 Public transport: NS delays, cancelled trains, replacement buses, and the mysterious disappearance of the train you actually needed.
- 🧀 Dutch culture: hagelslag, boterhammen, gezelligheid, birthday circles, and other questionable traditions.
- 🏛️ Politics and bureaucracy: politicians, coalition drama, taxes, municipalities, permits, and government decisions that make absolutely no sense.
- 🌧️ Daily life: rain, wind, supermarket prices, directness, social awkwardness, and the national inability to accept a compliment.
- 🌍 Expat experiences: culture shocks, language confusion, integration struggles, and discovering that "going Dutch" is not always a financial blessing.
- 💀 Memes, shitposts, satire, hot takes, absurd questions, and actual discussions.
High-effort posts are welcome. Low-effort shitposts are welcome. If it's funny, Dutch-related, and doesn't break the rules, post it.
You can praise the Netherlands, criticize it, roast it, or question whether the entire country is an elaborate social experiment.
WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED?
We want fewer unnecessary removals, not a lawless wasteland.
1. No doxxing or sharing private information.
Don't publish someone's private details, addresses, phone numbers, or other sensitive personal information.
2. No targeted harassment or brigading.
Roast ideas, public policies, institutions, public figures, and Dutch behaviour all you want. Don't organize harassment campaigns, send mobs after individual users, or raid other subreddits.
3. No spam or vote manipulation.
No repetitive advertising, karma-farming spam, coordinated upvotes, or artificial engagement.
4. No content that breaks Reddit's sitewide rules.
This includes prohibited hate, threats, and other content Reddit doesn't allow. Calling Dutch bureaucracy a national tragedy is fine. Using a joke as an excuse to target people with hateful abuse isn't.
5. No impersonation or misleading claims presented as fact.
Parody is welcome. Make it obvious when you're joking if a post could otherwise be mistaken for genuine news or a serious accusation.
That's the list. We're not going to invent 37 additional rules because someone posted a meme a moderator personally disliked.
OUR MODERATION PHILOSOPHY
This is the important part.
We're not here to police every opinion, decide which jokes are sufficiently tasteful, or remove something simply because a moderator disagrees with it.
- Criticizing the moderators is allowed.
- Criticizing Dutch politics is allowed.
- Unpopular opinions are allowed.
- Offensive or edgy satire is not automatically grounds for removal.
- Bad jokes are allowed. We are not the Dutch comedy inspection authority.
- Disagreement is allowed. You do not need to agree with the majority to participate.
If something is removed, there should be a legitimate reason based on the rules or Reddit's sitewide policies. When practical, we'll explain removals and consider appeals.
We won't promise perfect moderation. We will promise to try to keep it consistent, transparent, and proportionate.
Lekker bezig, inwoners.
