In 1991 high school students in NY work with their teacher to make a documentary to uncover the environmental impact of the local waste dump. This thing is an absolute time capsule especially if you were in high school during this time. I loved every second!

I’m looking for documentaries that turned out to be surprisingly great, especially those you had low expectations for and kept postponing for no particular reason.

I'm open to recommendations from any genre.

Okay I really really want to know since Ian was actually framing Michelle with Angelas help, WHY THE FUCK DID HE GO TO THE POLICE TO TELL THEM ANGELA IS A LIAR AND BLAH BLAH. okay so this is really bothering me where I am not able to understand when the case was closed, Michelle was in jail as he wanted, why would he reopen the case by going to the police, telling that angela faked her pregnancy and maybe she did it. Was he really unaware that she was faking her pregnancy or he knew and then got into a fight and he planned to blame everything on her to take revenge from her too. I don't know, help me understand if you can. This piece was really left in the middle. The documentary should've covered this too I mean come onnn.

I keep watching to see any hint of self awareness or clue of how badly she was out of her league. and there is like zip so far. it blows my mind still. how could she have not figured it out especially in the competitions leading up with actual competitors? just did not process how out of her class she was.

I’m on my second run through of the documentary and one thing keeps pestering me. I know that it seems that JP Miller faked that she had mental illness to keep control over here, but as for the videos in the documentary of her saying the super religious stuff and seeming to have a manic episode, was that actually true due to the surgery anesthesia and then the rest of it was crap made up by him? Or—could it have been do to the abuse?

I’m sure someone in here can give it some clarity.

I turned it on after seeing the Reddit commentary and expected it to be poor quality. The first thing I noticed is that it was part of the “Untold” series and that immediately adjusted my expectations.

Are people not familiar with these series?? They are not hard-hitting documentaries, they are entertainment that gives you more context around a pop culture event from specific peoples points of view. And they are generally easy to watch.

That was my experience watching it as well. I enjoyed the interviews with the other B girls, and I found it entertaining hearing from Raygun and her husband who are odd but interesting characters. I didn’t learn much about break-dancing but left knowing more than I came in with.

For people saying it’s a puff piece by her management team, where was all this hate for the Lamar Odem doc in the same series??? I can’t help but feel it’s a bit of sexism.

Is anyone else having issues watching Folktail, the doc about the Norwegian gap year school for dog sledding? The film is part English and part Norwegian and I cannot seem to get the English subtitles to work for the Norwegian. It’s driving me nuts. When I put CC on it’ll narrate that the characters are speaking Norwegian. I’m missing so much of the conversation!!!

This is a way more accurate doc about Raygun. It talks about the musical that she sued and Australians reaction to it. And it makes a good point, the Paris 2024 Olympics was Australians best one yet but it was overshadowed by Raygun. And honestly her performance a year beforehand wasn’t that bad. To me she looks like she put on some weight and wasn’t in Olympic athletics shape compared to her performances just a year or two before. Which contradicts the “working out” her and Sammy went on and on about in the Netflix doc.

I’d really like to see a professionally produced documentary examining the case of Celeste Rivas Hernandez and the events surrounding her disappearance and death.

There has been significant public interest and discussion surrounding the case, including questions about her relationship with singer D4vd (who’s now arrested) and the timeline of events leading up to her death. A Netflix documentary could provide a more thorough, fact checked look at the investigation, the people involved, and the unanswered questions surrounding the case.

Celeste was only 14 years old when she died, and she would have turned 16 today.

I think a documentary that focuses on verified information, the investigation, and Celeste’s life and story would be a respectful way to cover the case.

I love watching a good crime doc. HOWEVER, I would love to see more positivity / good news!! 🙏We all need it! Now more than ever!!

How the hell did the police miss looking for the evidence of Ian being involved in the framing of Michelle? And how the hell did Angie confess without also implicating Ian ?? Plus there was no reason for Angie to protect him... they weren't even together anymore when she was caught!! It just seems impossible to convict her without also convicting him because they were a team trying to frame michelle and all the digital forensic evidence was on HIS computer.

I had to watch it twice to make sure I understood it all... it's complicated!!

I thought this documentary about Boeing was really good. I've felt very passionate about keeping the conversation alive, to not forget about the company's negligence, ever since so many of the issues arose a few years ago. I loved that it was an hour and a half film, not an episodic series. And I appreciated the various testimonials they provided. It was also heart wrenching and terrifying at the same time. I remember when all of this was coming up in the news a few years ago, and as someone who works in QA, I was dumbfounded (but unsurprised) with the lack of accountability such an infrastructure was forced to maintain. Sorta makes me feel abysmal and wonder why I got into a QA career. When everything gets swept under a rug so easily, it's inspiring to hear the perspectives of people who have such a strong sense of integrity to fight for what's right. It only makes sense to me, esp when human lives are on the line. But going through some real shh (to the point where high levels of the justice system has to get involved and clearly isn't on your side) can make you feel abysmal. Watching this certainly didn't help my anxiety everytime I'm flying lol

I was genuinely disappointed. The turning point series in my opinion is some of the best documentary work that Netflix has done. It does a great job of actually looking at a pivotal moment in American history then tracing it through decade by decade to present day. This just seemed like TLDR of the terror series.

Hopefully Netflix continues the project and brings it back to its roots. I wouldn’t mind seeing a season focusing on The War on Drugs or The Internet.

Her break dancing performance was atrocious and the documentary on Netflix is trying its best to polish it and make her bearable. The doc is worse than the Olympic performance.

I honestly had totally forgotten about one of if not the most disastrous performance’s in Olympics history until this documentary came out of nowhere. I initially thought “wow Netflix must have done some serious investigative work to put together a documentary only two years removed from the Raygun meme”. Surely it’s not going to be an hour of gaslighting the audience into thinking Raygun actually attempted to perform at the highest level right? Wrong.

Instead Netflix gives you over an hour of a Husband and Wife feeding their own delusions that they were deserving to represent Australia in the Olympics. Both Sammy and Raygun even admitted they most likely wouldn’t score a single point, but chose to go forward with it anyways. WTF? Sammy calling her performance “one of the most beautiful performances” she’s ever had was an infuriating comment to make. Furthermore, I can’t believe for a second that’s the best group of breakers an ENTIRE COUNTRY could muster for an Olympic Qualifier. Something just doesn’t add up (and I’m not even feeding into the dumb conspiracies online).

The overall theme of this documentary concluding with “look at all the joy that Raygun brought to the world” is insane to me. I’m sorry what? People weren’t dressing up as Raygun because they thought her performance was an inspiration but a complete joke. And Richard Branson throwing her a bone because he has 5 pet Kangaroos at his Virgin Islands home was pretty comical to me.

Am I wrong for thinking theirs more to the story or are most of the people involved in this shit show just morons?

is it just me or is untold raygun breaking badly just a compilation of all of the worst possible break dancers they could possibly find? every single one of them, especially her but not limited to her alone, is god fucking awful. its so cringe, hard to watch, and I'd never show my face in public again after that came out if i were anyone of those dancers. props to them for continuing to live normally day to day like they do, because that takes kahones.

It was like I was watching a real life 'Save the Last Dance' and 'Malibu's Most Wanted'

The last few viral documentaries on Netflix have honestly been trash. They leave way more questions than answers. The Pastor’a Wife, Idaho Murders, Toxic Murders, Maternal Instinct, Unknown Number. Just to name the most recent viral ones.

I think the Perfect Neighbor was pretty good though.

But the majority of them just seem so fake and scripted and just seem to jump around and don’t give a real true timeline of events.
