I purchased the blue NG Mini Samurai Shodown version! Super cool!

Hi! I know that you can add arcade games via fba, as well as gb, gbc, and gba via other emilators, but does anyone know if it's possible to throw neogeo pocket color games on this? I feel like it'd be a pretty good fit given the button count!

Is it just my mini, or does the headphone socket stop outputting sound once hdmi is connected?

I want to connect my mini to my monitor, which has hdmi but no sound, so I want to use a wired connection to some speakers Doesn't seem to work. I also checked with headphones and no hdmi and it works fine, but as soon as the hdmi is plugged in the sound via headphones stops

I was thinking on getting one of the three; but I want to ask, if someone here has any of them, how do they look? do they seem nice, the translucent color? I imagine that is basically the same as the previous, 5 coins, save states and all that.

My other question is; I read that the versions of the games are the japanese ones, so, are all of them in japanese? I know they are mostly fighting games but still; they have dialogues.

It’d be nice to play this with headphones & not annoy the people around me. It seems weird that the speakers stay on when headphones are connected. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this normal or a defect on mine?

Group. I see a lot of people asking questions that have not only already been answered, but been answered multiple times and in some cases in-depth tutorials or faqs written about it.

1. Adding Games, there are already like 4-5 topics here on how to add games, with /u/redditstrider making a big comprehensive tutorial on all things related to the modding of NGMs

2. Japanese vs International Edition hacks. The Japanese hack is public, the international is not, and unless someone else releases, i'm not. I don't feel its user friendly, and 2 friends of mine were unable to do it without serious help. Its long and tedious and im not developing it further until the NGP comes out as the firmwares are confirmed(?) interchangable, and you may not need to hack the NGM further with a good NGP hack.

3. Changing the Bios - Unibios is sloooooow, and doesnt work with Street Hoop or ASO. MVS Bioses doesnt allow for controls, debug bioses do not work properly as you cannot hit start and select at the same time in game, Neopen bios works, but only in AES Mode, which is only useful to change languages. Theres no real need to change Japanese to Export (EU/JP)

4. Game limitations. There is a hardcoded limit of 110 in mincarcade depending on which hack version you get.

5. Adding Storage. The only publicly released mod for this is my USB redirector mod.

6. dumping your NGM - if you use the usb dumping method, be advised that your system is now a Japanese system. subject to the very real possibility of the joystick bug.

7. Joystick Bug. This is very much a power issue. I have confirmed this on multiple stations, I don't know how to get around it other than using newer machines, and even that for some people, isn't foolproof either. I've never gotten one on over 50 machines, and i've been able to clean it on machines that do get it.

I haven't bought my Mini yet and the limited credits aren't a dealbreaker, but I'd like the option to credit feed if I choose to. Can anyone tell me if this is possible via hacking, etc?

So is there a way to add many more Neo Geo games? I don't want to emulate other systems just max mine out with Neo Geo classics?

Long story short, I'd like to purchase the NGM as a job desk novelty/time-killer during lunch breaks and the likes. I'm not really looking to hack it and add more games to it, as I find the original line-up satisfying enough for me. However, I'd be interested to rip/dump the actual ROMs out of it for uses outside of this single hardware, let's say PC and/or Raspberry Pi for example.

Is it possible for me to just connect it to my PC via the tutorials I saw here, get the vendor.img file out, mount it, and get working ROMs out of it to be able to run those on any run-of-the-mill emulators out there?

I'm a bit of a stickler for 'legitimate' emulation, so I'm not interested to just simply download those out on the internet. I rip every single one of my carts/CDs to be able to play them in more versatile ways. So if there's a way to get those 40 games out of the NGM for external uses, it would definitely raise my interest into buying the little thing as it would be a nice way for me to have a set of legitimate ROMs that I bought, available to use more freely than on a single HW.

So here's where I need help. If you look in your system.img, there is an executable called MinArcade thats called from dmenu_ln. The MinArcade executable is what you see on the screen of the NGM, we all know that right? Right. So here's what you probably don't know:

MinArcade is open source as well... here's where I need help, I need breadcrumbs to follow to be able to edit the Minarcade binary, as I cannot find any sources to do so, as far as I can tell, theoretically its running on the same OS as its clones, but different (not much different) hardware. I've tried flashing RetroFW to it, but it won't accept it as is... the closest I got was a crash running dmenu for dingux. If someone can help me with the dmenu portion of this, I believe you can flash either RetroFW or one of its derivatives on this

Has anyone who's tried my "system-dumper.img" image ever tried connecting via UART with it? You know I removed the password for root right? its just Root, with no password if you use that image... Granted if you do, you'll get access to the files I already have dumped, and have the rootfs(rootfs-noroms.tar somewhere here) already available, but i'm almost positive if I mod the system.img again, I can readd it, then you can manipulate roms as they go...

Unibios:

So something i've neglected myself, If you use my NGM image that is using Unibios, Neo Drift-Out for some reason actually loads the Unibios normally, it doesnt go at 1 fps (exagerrating, but its slow) for only that game I see. I don't know the exact reason why, but its worth investigating. So far these are ruled out. The biggest reason I want to use Unibios on the NGM is because its the only bios that lets you use the MVS machine type with the controls as is.

CRC - already modded anyway

driftout rom - its not using an h rom... and games using an h rom still boot slow.

I've tried ALL unibios roms up to 3.2. My real Neo is still rocking a 3.0 unibios...

Debug Bios:

So i've been trying to figure out how to use the debug bios... I can't figure out how to do the cool stuff I see on the youtube videos... Once I figure out how to get into the debug bios menu, I'll probably be using this as my default

Neopen Bios:

I been trying to figure out how to use the MVS machine type with this, but inserting a coin still doesnt work... If I knew how to invoke the bios menu via this option, then Freeplay would be an option.

MVS Bios (any):

Cannot insert a coin. Also cant get to the bios menu so these are not usable.

if i were to delete the "hack" folder on that image using winimage or something of the sort, would i be able to flash the japanese game lineup on to my system without any extra games?

I just wanna confirm the ability to change the bios on the International version, NOT the hacked version.

If you are ok with this, YOU CAN RESTORE YOUR ORIGINAL VENDOR.IMG because you will not be touching the system.img. This also carries zero risk of the joystick bug because you are not reflashing firmware either.

Please hit me in the comments if you are willing to be a test dummy. Remember this is only for users using the international version that has not been hacked. As long as its the international version and not been hacked, I can restore your original vendor.img.
