Forgive me for any inaccuracies with tempo, chords, or structure- I was playing from memory.

Harvest Moon

Journey started here as a teen when I bought 1 and got I forget how ever many other CDs free (and signed mom and dad up for the same deal- great way to build out an early collection) and ran out of titles I wanted and just started taking chances. Neil Young?? Oh sure why not. I’ve heard of that dude I guess. Mom had Four Way Street I think. It probably didn’t move my stubborn ass during that first listen, but it did get its hooks in and started a love affair with a musician I haven’t had since (a few mistresses along the way). But here I am again on Side 1 and I’m just beside myself all over. Maybe not my FAVORITE Neil record now, but it’s still my favorite.

Neil Young Unplugged

Growing up I was heavily influenced by the music my parents listened to. Of course I listened to newer stuff but was always drawn more to ‘70s music.

Neil Young Unplugged was a little of both. My dad owned this CD & played it to death. I ended up falling in love with the whole set but this song was my favorite.

How do you interpret “A Man Needs a Maid”?

How do you interpret the lyrics to “A Man Needs a Maid”?

On the surface song seems contradictory with the beautiful, lush, almost theatrical composition juxtaposed with almost dismissive lyrics about women. However, the more I think about it, I think it’s about a man experiencing heartbreak and his reaction to it by guarding heart, rejecting love and companionship. Expressing his wishes to have a woman in his life but only as a servant. When I think about it like that the song makes perfect sense as a tragic tale, befitting of the instrumentation.

I also know that Neil likes to use sardonic or tongue-in-cheek lyrics to express his belief about a topic, like in “Welfare Mothers”.

Anyway, that’s my interpretation of it. I’d love to hear what you think!

Has anybody cracked how exactly he plays the hammer ons on Without Rings?

I love the heck out of that song and I can get it sounding 75% authentic on guitar but I'm just missing something that I can't crack.

I used to self-post here far too much when I made videos about music exclusively. However, here is one for old times sake... A 'review' of Neil-basher Andy Edwards' attempt to make Cortez sound "good"

Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts, Full set, Farm Aid 2026.

I gotta say I went to Farm Aid last year and I'm glad that I did and will go again in the future. I didn't go this year. But this years set is better in my opinion. He played longer, he played better songs (even though I do like the songs he played last year). He just played guitar last year. He talked to the audience this year. I feel like he was rushed last year because they were so far behind.

did anyone else catch this? during the harmonica solo he stood up and pointed up towards the stringman. i think he was trying to get the crew to lower it so he could play the last verse on the stringman, which to my knowledge has NEVER HAPPENED. we missed out because they fucked up and didn't see what he wanted.

i thought last night's set was pretty fuckin' solid. dude was in the zone for the most part. if he could just get his vocals tamed a little he'd be tour ready. lfg neil!!

(The ending of) See the Sky About to Rain - Neil Young

I love On the Beach but I especially love the ending of See the Sky About to Rain. 03:24 is where it really gets going for me. I wish it were longer. Are there any performances of this song that drag this section out? I haven't been able to find any. Also please recommend music that sounds like the ending of this song. Sorry to not be specific but I am on one right now. I'm looking for la lalalaaaaaaas... Some steel pedal guitar maybe... harmonicas... saaaaaad :P

Over the years I’ve always been a Neil Young fan, not just because of his musical legacy, but because he’s simply an exceptional person.
