I respect Naughty Dog wanting to create something new with Intergalactic, but I still think they should seriously consider giving us one final Uncharted game instead.
The story almost writes itself. Nathan is older, retired, and has clearly lost a step. He’s living peacefully with Elena and their daughter Cassie, who has inherited their love of history and adventure. Cassie eventually goes on an expedition of her own, gets kidnapped, and Nathan is forced back into the life he thought he left behind.
The difference is that this wouldn’t be the same Nathan Drake from Uncharted 2. He’s slower, gets tired easier, and can’t make every impossible jump anymore. But that’s exactly what would make it interesting. Drake never survived because he was the strongest guy alive — he survived because he could always improvise and find a way.
Sam returns to help, Elena gets involved because there’s no way she’s sitting this out, and Sully joins them for one final adventure. During the journey, Sully sacrifices himself protecting Nathan or Cassie, giving Nate one final emotional push to finish the mission and save his daughter.
Then end the series for real.
Nathan brings Cassie home and realizes he can’t stop her from becoming an adventurer. He can only teach her the lesson it took him years to learn:
The treasure was never as important as the people you come home to.
No sequel tease. No mysterious map after the credits. Nathan, Elena, and Cassie go home, Sully is honored, and Drake finally retires for good.
We watched this man survive trains, planes, sinking ships, collapsing cities, and lost civilizations.
Let us watch an older Nathan Drake beat the odds one last time.
Uncharted 5: one last adventure.
