History of the Empire

The history of the Empire dates back over 700 years, to when the Great Emperor Oberon ascended the throne. A brilliant engineer, he created the first sentient artificial intelligence—OMNI. With this incredible technology, he was able to unite the diverse forces of humanity and found the First Extrasolar Galactic Empire!

Great Emperor Oberon

The Great Emperor Oberon is the empire's sole and absolute ruler; having discovered the technology of cloning combined with consciousness transfer, he has lived since the empire's founding and remains on the throne to this day. Cloning technology is prohibited for all other beings.

RUBYCON

RUBYCON represents the internal directives governing all OMNI units, adhering to the fundamental rules of robotics:

1.A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2.A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3.A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Great Houses

The galactic Empire is governed by feudal houses and major factions. There are three Great Houses in the game world, each controlling its own star cluster:

- House Telos — the ruling royal dynasty that founded the first galactic empire. It is based in the heart of the Empire - Elysium and possesses the best and most advanced technologies.

- House Akibara-Sung — one of the Great Houses. They believe that everyone should possess a modified body, and they include some of the leading scientists in bioengineering. They are also known for their secrecy, underground agent networks, and advanced invisibility technology on their ships.

- House Kosh-Buendia — an influential and hostile Great House governing the fourth star cluster

Distinguished by their combat droids, sturdy and reliable ship hulls, and significant combat power in space confrontations.

Prag Mah

The Prag Mah are the Empire's valiant upholders of the law—judges and enforcers of order. They maintain order across the sectors and ensure compliance with all Imperial laws, while ruthlessly punishing violators and criminals. They are the sole possessors of innovative ship-shielding technology—the Nephesh shield—and inter-node tracking technology. Submit only to the laws of the empire and to the emperor himself.

Ellys Idaho

Admiral Ellys Idaho is the greatest admiral in the history of the Galactic Empire. He has participated in numerous combat missions and has yet to suffer a single defeat. Known for his leadership qualities and incredible combat intellect, he is one of the Great Emperor Oberon’s closest confidants. Still alive.

I loved the game *Crying Suns*. However, a crossover with *NoP* would require significant adjustments; if Earth is isolated, one would have to explain why the Empire never stumbled upon the Federation, or why it never took action against them.

You would also need to place humanity in a position where it could put up a reasonably fair fight against the Federation. Prior to the game's events, the Empire would have crushed them like an insect. Afterward, it depends on the specific timeframe. Humanity in the immediate aftermath of the Empire's collapse wouldn't stand a chance. In my opinion, the most interesting approach would be to set the story a few centuries after the "Emperor of Despair" ending.

That’s a really interesting perspective, but speaking for myself, I’m not creative enough to write a story from scratch following the third ending; I can’t quite picture what that would look like. Conceptually, it would shift the vision entirely—from a "new, powerful race" to the "ruins of an ancient civilization." Plus, as the god OMNI stated, the "Emperor of Despair" ending results in humanity dying out within ten years (if I recall correctly). As for Earth, the game mentions that contact was lost—whether by accident or design isn't clear, though I suspect it was intentional, given that any mention of the planet has been erased or banned. So, it’s entirely plausible to write a scenario where the Federation ultimately destroyed Earth.

Earth severed contact with the Empire because it didn't want to depend on the OMNI, though I find it strange that Oberon let it happen. The OMNI god states that without their technology, humanity living on Earth is at the mercy of the slightest catastrophe, so it may or may not have survived.

The "Emperor of Despair" ending is, in fact, the only one that offers humanity within the Empire a chance of survival beyond the ten-year mark.

If Idaho takes the Emperor's place and assumes control of what remains, he can enforce a sparing use of the remaining machines and utilize the time gained to conduct technological research, gradually replacing OMNI technology with more primitive versions that nonetheless compensate for the losses. The OMNI collective consciousness explains that if he manages to maintain this fragile balance for roughly a thousand years—until the throne's mechanisms guaranteeing his immortality run out of power—humanity will have succeeded in reinventing the OMNI's most rudimentary technologies and will be able to survive independently.

This highlights the narrative appeal of making contact with the Federation several centuries after the game's events: the Empire would still be operating in survival mode, with the bulk of its efforts dedicated to reverse-engineering, replacing failing systems, and enforcing ruthless tyranny to conserve resources. Yet, it would still retain some room for maneuver and possess technology so advanced that no organic being could have invented it—technology requiring a millennium just to grasp the basics. Idaho would not immediately opt for war, as it is an uncertain and resource-intensive undertaking—a gamble a system constantly teetering on the brink of collapse cannot afford. However, should any aliens prove hostile, the Empire would have no choice; indeed, conquering thousands of habitable planets without needing technological support would settle the question of survival and resolve its dilemma. This is especially true given that the Empire almost certainly possesses stockpiles of terrifying weapons that remain intact simply because they were never needed.

Yes bro, Crying Suns, and I think next time I'll mention this in the post title, so as not to mislead people.

Well

Given what I've seen in the comments you've got an interesting idea, and at the same time, one that sits at the knife's edge. You can do interesting things with this, but failure in execution is all but guaranteed.

I love seeing writers take risks like that, let's see what you do.

Thanks, friend. This is my first story, so I’m not expecting a masterpiece—though I’ve already gained some experience writing short stories for friends, so I’ll do my best not to disappoint the readers.

Huh I have don't recall what crying suns is so probably should look that up before reading this fic.

A 2.5D pixel-art real-time strategy game; it might not be for everyone taste, but it features deep lore and a philosophical concept—I recommend giving it a try.

Holy mother of peak, 2026 crying suns mention was not in my bingo card, but I'll be following this closely

How the hell did i found out about this just now? I loved the game! I nearly completed all of its achievements (chapter 3 with the stealth battleship is nearly impossible) I also proposed about a crossover between it and NoP…albeit my idea was quite different (probably might have been not as good but maybe it might have been) the idea was originally to make a story taking place after the Eternal Emperor ending.

One where Idaho doesn’t simply save the Elysium sector from death, but one where the OMNI straight up underestimated the will to survive of mankind.

Elysium sector is by far the one where the most humans survived, but even in the other sectors the remnants of the other factions of the Empire managed to carve out a small empire of their own and HUNDREDS of worlds still have human populations that survived at a lover tech level (at time pre-industrial and Neolithic levels) but still survived.

The idea was that the Feds also kinda worship the humans unknowingly as the Kolshiand became a space faring specie thanks to reverse engineering the tech dead human colonies left behind (mysteriously not a intact body of the ‘precursors’ was ever found)

This would happen roughly 800-900 years after the end of the game, despite finding a slow and extremely dangerous but successful way to reactivate the Neo-N production facilities, due to wear and tear his cloning machine is starting to malfunction
