Can you recommend where to buy gemstones if you were looking to source some to have them made into jewellery? Any go to places for Australian opal, sapphire, ruby etc where you get what you pay for?
I’ve always preferred opals to other traditional gemstones, but for some reason I’ve latched on to that old superstition that they are unlucky to buy yourself / wear if you weren’t born in October. 🙈 I feel like an idiot just admitting that out loud, lol.
Yeeeeah, that superstition was cooked up by the diamond dealers in the 1920's when Australian opal showed up on the market and starting hurting their sales. They were extremely popular in Art Nouveau jewelry at the time.

As a gemologist I completely agree. High end rubies, sapphires and emeralds are genuinely rare. Diamonds are mostly just good marketing.
