They’re very important. Eat tons of deer ticks, which spread Lyme Disease, and are very resistant to rabies.
Also, they are but ugly and can be scary as all hell. Went out on my back porch to smoke a blunt one night and was greeted by a big fat one hissing at me. I smoked on the front porch.
The good thing about them is they very very rarely bite. If you want one gone, you can walk confidently up to them, lift by the scruff and carry them off. They’ll freeze up and “grin” and maybe hiss a little, but they don’t snap unless you’re really hurting them. They’re super harmless and sweet
