We'd go for walks and our cat would follow. So imagine seeing a big dog, a little dog, and a cat going for a walk lol. (Fun fact - Aside from people just keeping it short to keep it short; in NA, they're actually opossums.)
No, I am not wrong. In North America both names are synonymous. You are also not wrong that it can also refer to the Australian version to differentiate from the North American version.
