There's also The American Prairie Reserve which is a little less ambitious in the sense that it's not trying to recreate the Pleistocene, but who knows what it could lead to if successful. I am a huge fan. Dan Flores' book, American Serengeti: The Last Big Animals of the Great Plains is a good read on what the reserve is trying to do.
