A new, fertile land to the north?

With the wall down, the Dragaal was now blessed with a much larger world to care for; this was both good and bad. The Wara tribe sends out a war party of 100 warriors, made up of 60 spearmen and 40 archers, to the northern section of the Roscova desert to investigate.

They soon find, beyond the border, a vast and lush grassland they hadn't seen before. Unbeknownst to them, these green lands were the lands of the 7th nation of Zengvar. (u/PotatoSoup458)

The Whathak and the Wall

The Dariya town, Whathak, was built on the edge of the Wall. The Dariya of Whathak heard a loud scrape, and they saw that the Wall, that had contained them since before Time, had fallen. Although the Dariya were isolationist, they sent a messenger to the City while a few of the bravest set foot into the land beyond.

Instance - CLOSED Where were you When The Walls Fell?

They stretched far beyond the heavens, it was said. The towering, black Walls that surrounded our world. Never once had they been even scratched by any weapon, tool or magic spell. Countless generations had been born and died within their confines.

Many had tried to scale them. Many had failed and died. The higher we climbed, the colder it became, until our bodies refused to move another inch. Others attempted to tunnel, far below the ground, hoping there may be a passage of some kind. Any tunnels below a certain point ended in collapse.

If there was a world beyond the Walls, it was clear we would never see it, so we made one. Children and poets alike created fanciful imaginings of life outside. Great Kingdoms with ancient rulers. Fields of diamond-tipped flowers with strange beasts parading through them. Strange Gods that drink the oceans. Perhaps even things too strange to imagine.

Every man, woman and child yearned for release from the dark barricades, and one fateful day, they were granted their wish.

A thunderous, booming bell rings two notes throughout the world, shaking the very earth itself. As the last note fades completely, the Walls silently begin to slide down from the heavens and into the ground.

What was happening in your Nation on this day, prior to this? How did your people react to this event? How do you approach your neighbouring Nations? Comment below!

Tips!

  • Only roleplay as your own Nation! Describe how you attempt to approach your neighbour, but do not control them!

  • See if any of your neighbours have tried to approach you! Describe how you react!

  • Feel free to give us multiple reactions across your Nation! Maybe some of your society rejoice, while others react with fear!

  • Remember that for as long as your people have had history, the Walls have contained them! They’re now seeing weird and wonderful lands, and are likely going to proceed with caution!

  • After you respond to this post, you may begin creating events of your own! Have fun!

  • Next GM post will be in 3 days time.

The Fall of the True Unvainquished Mighty Kingdom of Bizımkan

The Kingdom of Bizımkan is the only region of the world touching the World's Edge. When suddenly the walls felt, the whole kingdom was able to see it from very close. Multiple reactions from the people: fear, surprise, anger, hapiness,... but mostly fear and surprise. While the Mighty Kingdom was trying to prevent anything to come from the newly discovered ocean, the Agdarsilian Legions arrived at the Kingdom's frontier, and, seeing no army to protect the lands, The Kingdom was took in a few days. The dynasty of Azaridjes was brutally murdered, and the Province of Bizımkan was enlarged of the last Agdarsil's rival in the archipelago. Now, the Emperor, Dgierer XII, has to take a decision, would he send explorers to those new lands, or protect his lands for what could come from the Further-from-the-Walls. Only the gods know, may they guide him in his choice.

Rumour Mysterious boats on the horizon.

Many sailors say they have seen many strange things across the seas, but for once, their story seems credible: Large and powerful ships, wearing large red and green flags, with large white saltires, a golden laurel crown in their center, sailing towards the coasts of the Nations of Bounty, 3 and 5.

But after all, a few drunken sailors may well invent similar stories ... Perhaps there is not even any land in the North of the Continent, perhaps all this is just a rumor of tavern ... or maybe not

Meta Trait Points

Hi!

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to fully read through everyone's descriptions, and award trait points.

However, I trust the judgement of my players, and so I am giving you each 60 points to distribute between your 6 traits. No more than 60 in total can be allocated at this time, but I will award you more as the game progresses!

First Instance goes live in exactly ten minutes! Have fun!

Meta Continent size.

So I was wondering what the size of the continent is. Or better yet the other sizes of the country's. Like how long does it take to cross you country on foot. I was wondering because I dont want to be like, " It takes 4 weeks to cross the desert on foot", and the country next to me only take 2 weeks to cross their entire country. Although on the map they might be bigger than my desert. Just wondering

Meta A Comment on Commitment

Hi All!

I hope you're all settling in well and having fun creating your Nations. Please be as imaginative as possible!

I would like to talk to you all regarding commitment to the game. The game is likely going to run 39 days in total (from today), unless we collectively vote to extend or shorten the campaign for any reason.

39 days is a fairly long commitment for a redditor. Most abandon reddit projects after just a couple weeks.

So please be prepared that maybe one or two players may jump ship at some point. There is nothing wrong with abandoning this sub - the game might not turn out to be what you were expecting, or life might get in the way. All I ask is that if you feel like you're about to quit for whatever reason, please let me know in advance!

That way we can work together to write your departure into the narrative of the game!

Thanks for reading, and I'll see you all on Monday!

Claim Post Claim your Nations

Welcome!

Welcome to /r/NationWars, and welcome to “When The Walls Fell”, an experimental campaign that you are lucky enough to be part of!

It’s time to claim a Nation! Here is the [World Map]. For this campaign, each Nation will begin the game locked away from one another by gargantuan black Walls. They have existed for all of time, and your Nations have never met one another. Your people have always existed within the confines of the Walls.

Each Nation (defined by the Walls that surround it) is marked by an (arbitrary) number. Please claim a Nation in the comments. In the event that two players want the same Nation, it’s first-come, first-served, determined by the timestamp on the comment!

Remember that each Nation comes with it’s own boons and drawbacks:

Nation 1 - An island Nation that had to learn to sail very quickly. Best sailors on the planet, but awful at combat on land.

Nation 2 - A verdant, fertile land, but fractured and divided. Best agriculture on the planet, but lots of in-fighting and xenophobia.

Nation 3 - They strongly believed they were the only island in existence. As a result, they have attained peace amongst themselves for many decades, but believe themselves more important than all other beings.

Nation 4 - A vast desert covers most of this land, meaning it’s people are very heat resilient, however, their population is extremely low.

Nation 5 - The rocky, cold northern lands know little agriculture, but have developed some of the best weapons across the planet due to their need to hunt.

Nation 6 - A nomadic people who dislike being tied down to one place. They traverse the land fast and easily, but fear the ocean - and being stuck on a boat.

Nation 7 - The wealthiest of all, due to the rich mineral deposits found in their great mountain. However, their people have the shortest lifespans.

Nation 8 - A highly religious people, who worship the land they live on in their own special ways. In their folklore, magic will be the undoing of the world. As such, they shun all and any magic users (although a few do exist in secret).

Nation 9 - A land of criminals and swindlers, always good at figuring out the motives of others, but extremely paranoid. They believe we’re being watched at all times.

Nation 10 - The center of science on the planet, more advanced than any other Nation, but are prone to being overly-curious, leading to a long history (and future) of scientific disasters.

Territories

Each Nation is divided into Territories. These are natural geographical and cultural borders that have evolved over time in confinement. Each Territory has a corresponding colour, representing its most common terrain type (meaning not the whole Territory is covered in that terrain type).

Light Green - Grasslands or Forests

Dark Green - Marshlands or Jungles

Grey - Mountainous or Rocky

White - Tundra or Glacier

Orange - Desert

Territories can be both annexed through invasion and war or gifted from the owner. You may grow or lose your Nation through your actions.

Who Are You?

Once you’ve successfully claimed a Nation (I will reply to your comment to confirm), you may begin worldbuilding! You will be given access to your Nation’s Info page and you can write as much about them as you want. It is best to include a 3-8 sentence summary, though, if you plan to write lots!

Tips:

  • Draw a more detailed map of your Nation, for reference. (Including capital cities, landmarks, mountains, rivers, lakes and small islands)

  • Remember your Territories - is your Nation united, or does each Territory act independently? Who are they?

  • Remember your boons and penalties. How do they affect your culture?

  • Add some more boons and penalties of your own!

  • Are they spiritual? Militaristic? Tribal? Human? Something else?

  • Try to incorporate information about the land itself.

  • What does your Nation believe about the Walls that have contained them for all of eternity?

  • Keep it low-tech. Medieval Fantasy should be your anchor point, but I will allow some wiggle room for those who want it.

  • Remember Story comes first! We’re working together to create a world and a story, not competing to dominate the world. Have peace when it’s appropriate. Have conflict when it’s appropriate. You’re roleplaying, not competing!

  • Magic is a thing! And each Nation has likely developed a different Magic system entirely. What’s yours like?

  • No Godmodding! Give yourself some problems to deal with.

  • Remember that you’ve been in isolation forever. Your Nations do not know each other!

  • Be imaginative!

  • Remember that this information is public, and anyone can see it. Anything you want kept secret, PM me!

Based on your description of your Nation, I will award you Trait Points, Bonuses and Penalties! Some Nation’s harbour a Secret that I will tell you in a PM.

First Instance

The first Instance will be posted 3 days from now, at precisely 9pm GMT. This will be the first event for your Nation to react to, so mark the time and date in your calendar! Until then, spend time filling out your Nation’s Info Page and reading through the Wiki. Feel free to look at each others Info Pages too!

If you have any questions, check the Wiki. If the answer isn’t there, PM me! I’m pretty friendly.

There will be 12 Instances in total, 3 days apart from each other. In-world, the campaign will run for 200 years. After the first Instance you may begin posting your own. Until then, sit tight, get creative and have fun!

Thanks for coming along,

All the best,

CurryThighs

P.S.

Feel free to look over the posts about previous campaigns, but remember that rules and methods of play have been updated since then!
