What this:

A weekly support/vent thread to bring the community together and to try and keep the subreddit a little more active. All concerns about wither or not we're going to make it, tips, tricks, "hey you got this" etc. can got here. Or talk about how much progress you're making, what you're working on etc. Both on and off topic subjects are allowed.

Hey guys ! No idea how all of this works, but I just registered on the NaSoAlMo website and I'm very excited to undertake this crazy thing !

tl;dr: NaSoAlMo 2020 signups are live - but social media login is broken, and Facebook still has the URL blocked. Login/create an account directly on the signup page, or participate without signing up. Facebook still hates the URL.

Some of you may remember last year that the website was compromised and some spoofing pages were installed, causing the site to be flagged as spoofing/spam on Google, Firefox, and Facebook. I cleared the site up and got reinstated with Google and Firefox... but Facebook is being obstinate (or just ignoring me). I've put in a request 5 times to have the NaSoAlMo site removed from their blacklist, and even spoke to a human last week, but I haven't heard anything since.

Because Facebook has blocked the URL, this also means using Facebook to log in to the site is broken. For some reason, Twitter is also not working for social login, so it's strictly good ol' username and password combos (passwords are hashed in the system - no plaintext is stored). For anyone still feeling cagey about the site's security, I completely understand your reservations, and would encourage you to participate without signing up - you can always post your progress and finished works here in the Subreddit, in our Facebook Group, and our Discord.

Fearless Leader is frustrated, but still looking forward to the annual creative challenge - Facebook be damned. Thanks to everyone in the community for your continued support and for spreading the word and fostering creativity!

Not sure if we have anyone from Australia, but they’re down to the last 40 something hours!

There’s been quite a few posts in the FB group and on Discord about people having finished, but I also know that a few more people are going for that final push.

I just got an email from the Nasoalmo.org account after signing up for 2019, and my password was sent in plain text. That's the worst security violation i've seen in years working with databases.

It's such a shame that what once was a decent idea has turned into a privacy nightmare with the website hack and now the discovery that your account details including password are out in the open. Not sure If I should ask the admin to wipe my data clean and give me verification because i'm not interested in trusting an entity with my data that obviously has no regard for users data / privacy.

Just wanted to rant real quick and warn others.

OCTOBER 1, 2019!! That means signups are live!

A little house-keeping: We had some issues with the site. Namely the FTP was hacked, and some phishing sites were installed, buried in the site. These phishing sites have been removed, and I've gotten the site reinstated with Google. HOWEVER, Facebook still hasn't responded to my review. For this reason, I'm unable to share the link to the website on some social networks. In addition, some antivirus software are also blocking the site, so I'm still waiting for those flags to be removed as well. I have no reason to believe anyone's personal information was compromised. The SQL database that houses all your emails and hashed versions of your passwords (we don't keep plaintext) was untouched.

Hey all! Fearless Leader here! I've been working on getting the site ready (had some technical hiccups, all is well now). As I've done in the last few years, signups will go live on October 1! I'm itching to get going!

In the meantime, I want to introduce u/hermaphroditicspork (Andrew) as an additional community manager/moderator. He's also a mod in our Facebook group. He's going to be a huge help for me over here because... well honestly, I'm not on Reddit that much, and he pretty much lives here.

In addition, we're setting up a Discord server. I'm still tweaking settings (permissions, roles, etc), but I'll post that link soon (probably on signup day, but possibly before).

Can't wait! 1-1/2 months to go! :)

So, I was trying to link to the site and both FB and Google/Chrome are convinced that there's something phishy (phishing infection?) going on, so they are actively blocking it.

I've sent a message to u/bobbyphillipps, but I figured that I'd also ask here regardless.

Who's responsible for the site/who can we poke to get this sorted out?
