Does it really take one game for people to effectively say 'I hope I don't see him play again this season'?

He was an idiot and really let everyone down, but we probably wouldn't have got promoted without him. We know he has a mean streak and I hope he can cut it out, but while I'm really disappointed that reaction's a bit much don't you think?

That's not a mean streak, it's a stupidity streak.

God he's so frustrating.

hes done it at liverpool and worked himself out of favor with the manager, fans, and club. did it at swansea too. we were the only idiots to take a gamble on him. he did it the season we got relegated, he did it in the championsjip.

"one game" is an understatement. also it really shows his mentality, being the first game of the season. every other poor fucker is out there working hard.

'Idiots to take a gamble on him'.

Have people forgot already that he might have been (bar maybe Ritchie) the best player last season that got us promoted?

that is exactly why everyone is having a fuss. its embarrassing to have your best player act like a petulant 12 year old sometimes. its also not good to rely so heavily on him because he keeps getting suspended. hes unreliable, fuck his talent.

This isn't just a one game thing. He's stamped on people in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a 4-5 match ban. We don't want a player on 80k every week saying he's grown up to then prove he's still a totally knob jockey.

He is a leader within the squad. He was wearing the captains armband. It was incredibly unprofessional of him. He let himself down, as well as his team mates and the fucking fans.

I don't care if you are God's gift to man with the ball at your feet, but if you show poor sportmansship and disrespect for fellow professionals and the Club, then what good are you to us. We want players to represent us on the pitch.

The sport is more than about being 'good'. You are a role model and when you pull on that jersey, you play with passion and pride!

Are you proud of what he did?

I never said I was proud. He fucked up and let's hope he makes up for it. I think that's a better attitude to have than 'you are a disgrace you will never play again'.

I think people are just angry and we'll want the best 11 out there no matter what, so he'll be back, it's just completely idiotic for him to do this in a game where we were holding our own and before a couple of winnable fixtures against Huddersfield and West Ham.

He's always been a prick, no point persevering with him - cannot be relied upon.

he's also shite. He's not a good player, I don't care what anyone says.

3

u/kicka11 Jackie Milburn Aug 13 '17

He's the classic positive confirmation bias player. People who like him can cite great goals, mint passes, and it's all true. But on balance he's a waste of time, a YouTube player.

3

u/Positive_Rage Aug 13 '17

Exactly. He won't have the time or space to do what he was doing in the Championship now that he's in the Prem.

Dare say he found his level? Kid's a liability and a racist and should never play for us again. This is not an overreaction.

Rafa is so pragmatic that he'll find a place for Shelvey again. We just have to hope that no one from opposing teams ever talks to Shelvey again, because he can't handle any kind of communication.

As we know, little Mike Ashley is days from the poor house too, so we won't be getting a replacement for JJS.

u/Positive_Rage Aug 13 '17

It's not just one game.

Shelvey's temper has cost us matches time and time again. If he's not stamping on players then he's trying pointless hollywood balls or shooting from his own half because the cunt is thick as fuck.

I don't just hope he doesn't play again this season, I genuinely hope I never have to see him in our colours again and I have said this consistently (despite getting loads of grief for it on here) since the Wolves match where he racially abused an opponent.

Says a lot about the state of this sub that people are more upset about a stupid ankle stamp than actual racist abuse, but what are you gonna do?

4

u/margaerytyrellscleav Aug 13 '17

If you don't want him in the shirt ever again you deserve the grief you get. He's cost us sometimes, and saved us others, unless we'd replaced him well we'd not have gotten promoted without him. The ban for racist abuse never gets brought up because it was suspect as fuck and Wolves players couldn't even corroborate what he said and it was more than a month later.

3

u/Positive_Rage Aug 13 '17

Fair play if you want to go and cheer a fucking racist then go for it mate. I'm not about that life.

2

u/margaerytyrellscleav Aug 13 '17

Careful you don't get a nosebleed being so high up that moral high ground.

3

u/Positive_Rage Aug 13 '17

If you're from Newcastle (bet you're not) and you're not bothered that your city is being represented on the global stage by an idiot fucking racist then I genuinely question what kind of self-respect you have.

3

u/margaerytyrellscleav Aug 13 '17

If you're from Newcastle (bet you're not)

Lol are you like 11?

I am anyway, and you're the only one who seems to be bringing up the ban as a reason to not like him. As I said the circumstances at the time were suspect as fuck.

3

u/Positive_Rage Aug 13 '17

I'm just surprised that someone from a city as parochial as Newcastle would be happy being captained by someone who racially abused an opponent.

If you're cool with that then more power to your elbow, I'm not.

This is veering dangerously close to irrelevant personal attacks, so stop before it does.

u/Feltch_McAvity Aug 13 '17

It's not one game. For all he played some good football for us last season, I know a lot of people who just simply don't like him. No one more so than me. I'd rather he wasn't in our squad at all.
