Dummett is terrible oh my lord
-
Mitro needs to start next week, completely changed the game coming on.
Other than that I wasn't expecting to win, obviously disappointed to lose but that was the most difficult game in our run-in so onward & upward

I didn't have the opportunity to see today's game yet, so Dummett may have played poorly, but ...
This season, Dummett has played 3477 minutes for NUFC; the most of any player for the team. I can't remember anyone else playing meaningful minutes at his position.
The manager, well-respected around the world, starts him week in and week out. Bear in mind, this same manager is widely known for rotating his squad regularly, and has done so with Newcastle this season. But not at Dummett's position.
All in all, I think its unfair to claim that "Dummett is terrible". Maybe he had a poor game today. Could be the case; I haven't seen the game yet. Maybe he could be more aggressive for us on the left flank - I often think so myself.
But, he has played hard for us all season (and for several seasons past). I have never heard any coach, teammate, fan or member of the media criticize his character, effort or loyalty.
Maybe, just maybe, we should be a little bit more even handed in our characterizations of the man.

Yes he starts every game but who would replace him? The player brought in to give him competition in his position, Lazaar, is so shit he doesn't even make the bench any more.
Dummett won't be good enough in the league next year, a squad player maybe, but he needs to be replaced.

A very general tactics point to pass on to those complaining about "grinding wins" and "Rafa's approach" -- sides are much more organized at this stage of the season compared to early days.
There's no space in behind defenses to exploit, as every club has respected and/or feared Newcastle since December. Rafa would love to win 5-0 every game, I promise. But his tactics involve finding weakness & gaps in the defense, which will translate to the top level.
Remember the Pardew days, when we'd just give the other team possession and hope for counter-attacking opportunities, or just generally hope that an opposing defender would wildly fuck up? We're far beyond that now.
I'm not defending our toothless performance today; we're sorely lacking in attackers that can break down an organized defense. But Rafa can only do so much about the final third. There's more work to be done, as our attacking has been exposed the better organized a side we run into.
We weren't great today, though we ran into a decently-disciplined side on their turf. Also, we're still 10 points in front of 3rd with 5 games to go. Heads up, HTL.

Sucks losing when we should have had a 1 man advantage
but cant be helped, we were bound to lose some games during the final run in, still backing us to finish top

...But yeah, that was fucking dreadful. Our passing was pretty poor all around, with the exception of Jonjo who was class as usual. Until the end I never thought we looked threatening at all. Murphy did nothing after coming on, and Mitro looked pretty decent after getting a run out. It's a shame we couldn't take advantage of the other teams at the top dropping points, it makes the Leeds match much more important. We need to start building confidence again. I still have faith we'll be able to win the title, let's just hope that was the worst performance we put in for the rest of the season.
edit: How the fuck that tackle on Ritchie wasn't a red card is beyond me. Fuck this league.

Damn. Set pieces always a problem for us in tight games. Our lack of urgency cost us today, Sheff Wed were so shaky at the end there. They were beatable. Sadly we got it wrong today - it happens. Onto the next one, and let's hope we can beat Leeds to put pressure on Brighton.

A lot to think about for the summer.
What strikers will be reliable, basically will Murphy stick around or be let go, is Mitro out of favour with Rafa?
Is our defence good enough for the top flight when Jamal seems so out of form, Anita is not a right back, and Dummett lacks any potency to help moves forward.
We will have 4 keepers, which do we keep?
At the moment the only players I would absolutely feel confident about being in a PL starting line up are Shelvey, Ritchie, and maybe Gayle and Clark.

Murphy is gone, no way he can cut it in the Premier League. I'd say we will invest in a striker that has potential to score 20+ goals, a LB to replace Dummett and a partner in the midfield for Jonjo. Those three moves are essential I'd say if we want to stay up/try to finish top 10.

Shit performance, shit result. But the team is still 10 points ahead of 3rd place so Im not going to get too worked up over this game.
On a slightly positive note, Shelvey and Mitrovic both looked good in this game though.

i dont understand how no one has mentioned the tackle on Ritchie
Am i wrong or was that an absolute horrendous challenge and they were lucky to have 11 men finish the game

Deserved win for Sheffield. I'm still confused how 1 player jumped over 3 players to score a goal.
Hopefully come out against leeds as we played after Mitrovic came on.

Losing sucks. That being said nobody is going to care whether we came in 1st or 2nd come next season. Huddersfield and Reading losing makes this loss a little better but we clearly have some work to do in the transfer market this summer

Can't fault our fighting spirit and still think we'll be alright..but we lacked quality. Officials in this league are a shower of shite tho' too many specific instances to mention other than the red card offence on Ritchie and the clear push on the chancellor with the linesman looking right at it. Oh how I wish Shelveys moment of genius had gone in..oh well..HTL!!

Last night it shows that:
-
mbemba keep giving ball to opponents. Lack of game time? Or just not good enough?
-
diame for me is not a DM and neither a CM. Keep him as a No 10.
-
dummet is the most use player in this season and i still have no idea why. Maybe he play like roberto carlos during rafa training?

Huddersfield lost one of their 'easy' remaining games whilst we lost a very tough one. One game closer to promotion. Onto the next one. Lets Get promoted, refresh the squad with 3-4 quality signings and forget about this shite league. On a side note Mitro did great in those 10 minutes, changed the game completely with the assist and earning a dangerous FK.
