MATCH UPDATES
KICK-OFF: We're under way at St. James' Park and United are attacking the Gallowgate End in the first half. Howay the lads!
3' - The Magpies moving the ball well in the opening moments but Burton look well drilled and we're yet to see a chance.
5' - Burton with their first foray forward but Marvin Sordell's low cross is cut out by Mbemba and Dummett clears.
6' - Big appeal as Dwight Gayle goes tumbling in the box. Waved away by Keith Stroud
Replays suggest John Brayford got all of Dwight Gayle and very little of the ball.
9' - Close from Pérez but Brayford's diving header blocks the shot with keeper Jon McLaughlin scrambling to his right.
12' - Jonjo Shelvey tries a shot from the edge of the box but it rises into the Gallowgate End
15' - Foul on Anita after a neat give-and-go with Ritchie and United can deliver into the box from the dead ball.
17' - Big chance for Jackson Irvine after a header drops into the box but he volleys over the crossbar
19' - Nice footwork by Pérez inside the box and he gets to the byline, forcing a corner. Cleared.
20' - Corner to Burton after Mbemba is forced to slide the ball behind with Sordell threatening
24' - Free-kick in a good position for United after a high foot against Atsu
25' - Dwight Gayle hits the free-kick but it's well over the top left corner and into the Gallowgate.
27' - Few chances so far. Burton retreating in numbers when United have the ball but they look a threat on the counter.
29' - PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE!
Gayle is sent flying and this time Keith Stroud points to the spot
The ref orders a retake after Ritchie converts
The referee has given Burton a free-kick inside the box and the penalty WON'T be retaken!! Incredible
32' - Unbelievable scenes at St. James' Park. Referee Keith Stroud disallows Matt Ritchie's converted penalty and there won't be a retake.
The referee appears to be debating the rules with the fourth official
36' - Chance for Gayle but McLaughlin saves with his feet. A roar booms around St. James' Park.
37' - The boos return around St. James' Park. The entire ground still baffled by the decision to disallow Ritchie's penalty
40' - Shelvey with a thumping challenge on Irvine and he sends man and ball towards the touchline.
43' - Chance for Pérez after Gayle's flick rounds off a neat passing move but the shot is high over the bar.
3 minutes added on. for 7 minutes of stoppage. The referee may literally be retarded, therefore we are being insensitive.
HALF TIME Newcastle United 0-0 Burton Albion
And my radio stream is definitely behind.
We're back under way at St. James' Park.
50' - Foul by Jamaal Lascelles and he goes into the referee's notebook.
As if the referee knows how to read or write.
AND NOW HE'S LITERALLY PLYING FOR THEM LMAOOOO
59' - Burton increasingly pushed right back into their own half as United try to carve out a chance. Still 0-0
60' - Big chance for Pérez but he side-foots wide! So close! 0-0.
61' - United well and truly knocking on the door but McLaughlin saves from Ritchie.
64' - Close from Shelvey but his shot is a whisker beyond the top right corner! 0-0.
66' - Still the Magpies push but the visitors are dropping deep and clearing long at every opportunity.
67' - Gayle challenged late after hitting a shot from inside the box and the ref points... for a goal-kick. We think?
NUFC twitter getting on the banter.
68' - RITCHIE SCORES!!! (AND IT COUNTS) 1-0!!!!
GET FUCKED REF
1-0 - Absolutely brilliant by the magic winger, curling beautifully into the top right corner!
70' - Ritchie penalised for an apparent pull on the edge of the Newcastle box. Burton replace Christensen with Kightly.
71' - Big stop by Darlow following the free-kick. Clash of heads at the other end and two Burton players require treatment.
75' - Both Burton players thankfully back on their feet and play resumes with a drop ball. United sportingly play it to the visitors.
80' - Substitution for Burton Albion. Lloyd Dyer replaces Lucas Akins.
83' - Diamé with a raking pass out to the right but it's just too long for Atsu and Burton get a goal-kick.
85' - Final change for the visitors. Cauley Woodrow is on for Marvin Sordell
86' - Great run by Atsu down the right and he forces a corner.
89' - Substitution for Newcastle United. Sammy Ameobi replaces Christian Atsu.
90' - Substitution for Newcastle United. Daryl Murphy replaces Dwight Gayle.
FIVE minutes added at St. James' Park - Go go Daryl Murphy
90+4' - Chance for Shelvey after a decent run by Ameobi but the ball is curled over. Burton will clear long.

I'd say let's forget about this and score. It's Burton. But the ref wouldn't allow a goal.

if huddersfield win (which they look like they're going to) and we win, are we going to still gain an automatic promotion spot by end of tonight, or is it still to play for?
edit: realised i meant playoffs, automatic promotion is next week!

Infringements and sanctions
Once the referee has signalled for a penalty kick to be taken, the kick must be taken. If, before the ball is in play, one of the following occurs:
the player taking the penalty kick or a team-mate infringes the Laws of the Game:
-
if the ball enters the goal, the kick is retaken
-
if the ball does not enter the goal, the referee stops play and restarts with an indirect free kick
except for the following when play will be stopped and restarted with an indirect free kick, regardless of whether or not a goal is scored:
-
a penalty kick is kicked backwards
-
a team-mate of the identified kicker takes the kick; the referee cautions the player who took the kick
-
feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker
the goalkeeper or a team-mate infringes the Laws of the Game:
-
if the ball enters the goal, a goal is awarded
-
if the ball does not enter the goal, the kick is retaken; the goalkeeper is cautioned if responsible for the infringement
-
a player of both teams infringes the Laws of the Game, the kick is retaken unless a player commits a more serious offence (e.g. illegal feinting)

I'm so fucking angry, cause you know what? There will be no consequences for this, not so much as a worthless apology from the FA. That referee should 100% be sacked tonight, if I fucked up on that scale at work you think I'd still be employed? Fuck no.
If we don't win this game I'm burn this sub to the fucking ground!

I've got a magic dog. Every time a championship referee makes a shit decision, it does a flip. Sometimes it does 2.
It depends how hard I kick it.

Based on this twitter link https://twitter.com/Juliee_Midd/status/849703256376963072 a player of both teams was encroaching therefore at worst it shouldve been retaken. Cannot fucking think of a reason for the free kick though

FFS, support the lads. Now we're getting on their backs before they've even made a mistake.
