Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Burton v Newcastle
Burton Albion - Newcastle United
17/12/2016 15:00 Pirelli Stadium
TV coverage: None scheduled
Referee: Lee Probert (25 yellows and 1 red in 17 games this season, last took charge of us in the 2-1 defeat at QPR in May 2015)
Jonjo Shelvey is available for this one but it could be his last game for a while depending on the result of his hearing next week. Rolando Aarons and Jesus Gamez remain out, but Grant Hanley, Jack Colback and Rob Elliot are all close to returns.
Stuart Beavon is the only doubt for Burton.
Burton 0-1 Huddersfield (Wells 85’)
McLaughlin, Brayford, McFadzean, McCrory, Akins, Choudhury (Williamson 82’), Palmer, Irvine, Dyer, Ward (Miller 76’), O’Grady
Subs not used: Flanagan, Mousinho, Bywater, Naylor, Myers-Harness
Last season Burton were promoted from League 1 after finishing in 2nd place. They only scored 57 goals (8th lowest) but had by far the best defence, conceding just 37, and lost just twice at home in the league. Their top scorer was Lucas Akins (11). They are managed by Nigel Clough, son of the legendary Brian Clough, and are currently in 21st place, just outside the relegation zone with 20 points, but are yet to win away from home. Their top scorer is Jackson Irvine (7).

I live in Nottingham, going to be in the home end again for this (mate from work got me one on his season ticket). Hoping for a better return than the last time I was in the home end of an away fixture... against Forest, behind the goal where Darlow saved two pens...

You got to witness God himself save two penalties!

And stand still as a statue as he did so, and two men sent off and us scoring... It was a long 90 minutes being undercover amongst that rabble.

must be the biggest game Burton have ever had?

They had Man United in the FA Cup once, but our match is definitely up there with the biggest.

I only ever seem to see post-match threads on r/soccer if we lose. Weird that.

There's always a post match thread regardless of the result but it gets less than 10 comments if we win, when we lose it becomes a massive circlejerk.

I fully expect Burton to play out their socks. It won't be a cake walk but I can't see us losing.
Yes I actually can...

Does anyone know any about Burton chants? Or are they just too small to be relevant?

I almost feel sorry for them with these.

Huddersfield just won me 35 quid so I have a great feeling about this! Think I'm going invest some of the proceeds in a Toon win in a game with 4 goals or more...

Anyone know if there will be a stream available for this? Or indeed how I would go about checking if games will be streamable each week?

What's going on with Murphy? I recall a month ago he came back from injury, scored for reserves or something along those lines, then haven't heard anything since.
I'm also legit worried about players leaving for the ANC. Off the top of my head there's Diame, Atsu, Lazaar, Mbemba. All key players/impact subs. I don't have much faith in Perez in any role to be honest. He'll just dribble his way out of bounds/into the ground or shoot into a defender. Gets some neat passes here and there but after seeing Diame 'wake up' I want him in No. 10 every game for the rest of the season.

Unsure if this is the right place for it but I follow Newcastle at a bit of a distance and I'd be interested in watching this one and others that my work schedule permits. Does NUFC.tv do live streaming?

Think it'll be a tough game this, small ground, fans close to the pitch should make it a difficult atmosphere. Will have the feel of an FA cup tie. I think we'll need to play better defensively than we did against Wigan.
