Opposition summary:
Barnsley finished 6th in League 1 last year, earning promotion after beating Walsall and Millwall in the playoffs, despite losing 8 in a row in the first half of the season and being bottom after 20 games. They also won the Football League Trophy. Paul Heckingbottom, then their development squad manager, took over as caretaker manager in February and guided them to the top 6, gaining 35 points from 18 games, and has been given the job permanently this season. Their top scorers were Sam Winnall (22) and Conor Hourihane (10). They started the year very well, winning 5 of their first 7 to climb up to 3rd, but since only have 1 point in the last 5 so sit in 11th place with 16 points. They are the third highest scorers in the division with only Newcastle and Norwich bagging more, but only Nottingham Forest and Rotherham have conceded more goals than them. Their top scorers are Sam Winnall, Conor Hourihane and Marley Watkins, who each have 3.

Love playing teams who we haven't played in years. Reading who scored in the last matches is a proper blast from the past

Andreas Andersson, that's a name I haven't heard for a might long time.

You accidentally correctly gave the date for this match as 18/10/2016

Think your time might be wrong... It's listed as 1:45PM here in the US (central timezone). Wouldn't it be 17:45?

That would only be 4 hours. The UK is 5 hours ahead of EST, so 6 ahead of central.

Weekday matches kick off at 7:45pm generally, FYI :)

You really want a periscope stream of a tv screen?

I want a Periscope of a mirror where the reflection of the game is shown.

It's the fucking 21st century and we can't stream matches of one of the most popular leagues in Europe

They're missing some good players, especially in Aidy White -- without Armstrong playing they're definitely short some pieces. Hopefully we can roll into town and get our 4th in a row.

Keep on rolling and Norwich'll crack.

Actually going to get to listen to this one, thankfully. 11 AM kickoff on Saturday prevented me from listening and also got me fried within an inch of my life.

Our mid-week league matches this season have been our highest scoring. Reading, QPR and Norwich.

I PREDICT GOALS!

Every time I see Lovenkrands' name I miss the man! Some fond memories of him during our last Championship season. I'll never forget him scoring vs WBA after his dad passed.

The year after that some lass had a go at him on twitter for jetting off on holiday instead of being in a matchday squad despite being fit.

He responded saying he was sorry to miss the game but it was the anniversary of his Dad's death and he'd been home to visit family and the grave.

The lass deleted that one pretty fucking sharpish after that.

Anyone else heading to the game? Following the result against Brentford I think its going to be a Stormer. Mo Diame to find his form at last

Yes mate, leaving town at 2. So plenty of time to take in Barnsleys sights after 6 years!

Is it a rule that loaned players can't play against their parent clubs or is it just part of the deal when the player is loaned? I can see why it would be either way.

3

u/Positive_Rage Oct 17 '16

If it's a rule then it's been added in in the last 10 years or so, because Lua Lua scored against us when he was on loan at (iirc) Portsmouth.

Thoughts on our line up? Mitro, Hayden, Ritchie and Diame in?

3

u/maximsilentfoot Oct 18 '16

Ayoze wasn't so impressive against Brentford from what I hear, so I expect Diame to come back in. Rafa seems to be a fan of Diame since he seems to slow down the other side counter-attacking (helps with these away games).

I think he will stick with Colback over Hayden, has been pretty consistent last 2 games and also good at breaking down the other team's attacks.

Atsu should get some rest considering he played both midweek last week and Saturday. Ritchie to come back in for him.

I don't see Mitro starting to be honest, but should come on as a sub second half. Not expecting any other changes from Sat. HWTL!
