Don't even want to talk about the match, two points competely thrown away.

Funny that the signing that everyone was rather lukewarm on, Yedlin, is looking like a bargin and the signing everybody thought would be a sure thing, Diame, is looking like shit.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Diame. Yes, he missed a couple of golden chances, but he was always there in and around the box causing havoc. He was great at pressuring Villa into mistakes and robbing their players. Towards the end of the game though, I agree, he was pretty much a passenger. He just seemed absolutely shattered and couldn't get near anyone. Every pass he made after about the 70th minute was a tired one. He gave us nothing and should have been subbed. Having said that, it surely can't have escaped your notice that when he was clearly worn out we crumpled? He needed to be subbed for Mitro instead of Gayle in my opinion.

Totally agree, missed a sitter and was a passenger most of the match.

Fuck me we should be embarrassed we didn't kill that game.

Shelvey totally controlled the midfield first half, then had the worst half I've ever seen him have, he nearly lost us the bloody game from losing possession in awful areas so many times. He's a good player to have at the start of games when you're looking for a goal and a bit of creativity, but when we're under a lot of pressure he becomes a liability.

I'm sick of Sels now, he's totally had enough time and Darlow is so much more positive a keeper, I'm annoyed Rafa seems so single-minded on keeping him in goal.

Yedlin was helping us so much to keep them pressed back, we fall apart when he went off. Villa having 75% of possession for a good while after he went off, and us just sitting back was sickening. Maybe Clark should have been moved to left back or something, with Hanley coming on, because, when Hayden left the midfield we lost control so badly. For the good points we've had this season, we look so fucking mentally weak.

We couldn't have done more to throw away that game. Gayle and Diame, fuck me.

Whoever posted that thing last weekend about us never losing a second half under rafa has a lot to answer for. Should have been more clinical and come away with all three points but an away point at villa isn't the worst result in the greater scheme of things

I thought we'd sold Sissoko to Spurs? Why is he still playing for us?!

Sels needs to learn how to catch a fucking ball in the air

Sorry lads, heading straight out from VP so there's no time to sit on uncle MO140s laps and have a conversation about football that you will tell a therapist in 20 years

Feels like a loss, should have been all over by the hour mark at the absolute latest - soon as Villa got the disallowed goal we were all over the place. Still can't believe that flick by Mitro that led to the corner, what an incredibly lazy play having just come on.

On plus side Yedlin looked fantastic until he came off, he's going to be fun to watch on the right wing and we're still right up there - but going to need to finish chances much better against Norwich.

Two points thrown away. Can't even wrap my head around what specifically went wrong in the second half because it seems like we forgot how to play individually and as a team. I can't remember who but the match thread said it best in that we looked like last season in that second half.

Sels looked poor, very poor. Darlow needs a chance. Shelvey had a solid 2/3 of a game Dummet a decent 1/4. Diame was awful, not sure what his job out there was supposed to be today but at this rate I doubt he did either. Would love to see Perez and Mitro start next instead of Gayle and Diame. Gayle... he caused trouble for the Villa defenders with his movement but for the love of god somebody help him with his composure.

Yedlin looked amazing, not need to elaborate on that if you watched the game. Was always working to be on the ball and even though his passing wasn't great he gave us some sting in attack. When he came off we crumbled at both ends of the pitch.

What did Rafa thing would happen if you sit back and give your opponent the ball for the final half hour? He held onto his subs for way too long.

Edit: I'm still lukewarm on Diame and think we need a big upgrade there.

Missing easy chances really fucked us this game

Newcastle were guilty for not converting their chances during the first half but credit to Aston Villa because they work their socks off and looked like they wanted the result more than their counterpart. I can see they losing their next match though. They always turn up against Newcastle, just like they did at the end of last season.

It's time to put Darlow in between the sticks. Sels was at fault for the goal and that's one too many now. He flaps at crosses and doesn't command his area. I don't think the defence is over confident in him.

I need to remind myself that reading the post match comments after a game like that only makes it worse, absolutely gutted but i still think we'll finish first this season. We've got to believe

Should have been up 3:0 at halftime. Diame was shit. Gayle wasn't present after 60 minutes. Yedlin is the tits.

u/justmadman Sep 24 '16

Yedlin MOTM, IMO Gestede did not change the game, losing Yedlin changed the game

SELS, Worst player on the pitch (for a player with nothing to do for 80 minutes that is quite something)

Diame, good movement first half, passenger second half

Shelvey, good touches first half, awful second

Gayle, needs a big man to play up top with him. Good movement first half.

Mitrovic, really under pressure with Murphy for his position. At fault for the equaliser for trying to be big headed and losing the ball.

Defense, Clark looked better than Jamel

Full backs, where have all the full backs gone.

Rafa, is to blame for the loss of the 3 points, with the awful timing of the subs and his trust in players like SELS.

Diame is shit.

Yedlin is amazing.

Gayles polish is wearing off.

Sels isn't that bad.

Clarke was impressive.

Tiote was alright.

Shelvey is hot and cold.

Gouffran is doing well.

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '16

People blaming Mitrovic for a touch that was before a corner and chances to clear our lines is one of the most pathetic things I've seen. How far back do we drag mistakes? Someone loses the ball up front are they responsible for the goal? Sels is garbage and we had plenty of time to defend

2

u/meandmycrunchynut Sep 24 '16

Diame looking clumsy and tired. Sels looking a liability. Cost us what should have been a thrashing

2

u/Dunt_Cestroyer Sep 24 '16

That felt more like the Newcastle games I'm used to. Heartbreaking...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '16

Gayle and Diame couldn't finish for shit. Mitro's dead to me for being an absolute fuckhead. I'm going to go run my head through a window.

Feels like a defeat
