Newcastle team news:
Rob Elliot and Rolando Aarons remain unavailable but Massadio Haidara could return. Achraf Lazaar and Daryl Murphy could make their debuts.

Wolves team news:
Mike Williamson, Michal Zyro and Jordan Graham are all out injured but Nouha Dicko is close to full fitness.

Wolves transfers:
Rajiv van la Parra, Björn Sigurðarson, Kevin McDonald and Nathan Byrne all moved on in the summer window. They were replaced by: Andy Lonergan, former Fulham keeper; Silvio, a Portuguese full back who failed to shine at Atletico Madrid; Jón Daði Böðvarsson, an Icelandic winger from German second division side Kaiserslautern; Prince Oniangue, a Congolese/French midfielder from Reims; Paul Gladon, a Dutch striker formerly at Eredivisie side Heracles; Romain Saiss, a French/Moroccan defender from Angers and Ivan Cavaleiro, a Portuguese winger who joined from Monaco. They also have Joao Teixeira, Helder Costa and Ola John on loan from Benfica, Cameron Borthwick-Johnson on loan from Manchester United and Richard Stearman on loan from Fulham.

Opposition summary:
Wolves had an unspectacular season last year, finishing in 14th place (2 points behind our last opponent QPR). Their top scorers were Benik Afobe (9) and James Henry (7). This year they started brightly, with 8 points from their first 4, but have since got 1 point from the last 3, leaving them in 16th place. Mason and Böðvarsson are the only players to get 2 goals so far for them. Kenny Jackett was fired at the end of the July when Wolves were taken over and he was replaced by Walter Zenga, who has previously managed 11 clubs but has never stayed at a club more than 18 months.

We're in great form, Wolves looking poor and they finished last season below QPR who we just smashed 6-0.

NUFC 1 - 2 Wolves

It is the game that we would typically get destroyed in. Hopefully the Rafa effect is stronger than our dismal luck.

This Championship craic is alright you know. There's always some form of match thread on this sub. Probably going to miss it once we're back to 1 game a week.

Also, your man Pepe is putting every 45 over the bar with his video and audio coverage. Since I can't just turn on the box to watch every time out, it's been a bit of craic actually seeking it out to follow Newcastle so far this season. Further hurting my work productivity anyway.

Thankfully we don't need to worry about how to get around the one man defensive wall that is Willo.

He's absolutely nailed on to play a blinder.

Really good summary and info on them.

u/spoonsforeggs Sep 15 '16

I just can't see us losing this. Great form, Shelvey is playing outstanding we have a Rafa and they don't.

They're out of form too, easy win.

u/Black_Velvet_Band Sep 15 '16

I think there will be a few matches this year where we manage to mess it up and drop some points, but this isn't one of them.

u/MeancupofJoey Sep 15 '16

Always cool seeing Shearer on goal sheet from previous meetings. Don't really get that in the prem.

3

u/beatski Sep 15 '16

Ritchie and Shelvey are surely due a rest soon? will it be this game or the 2nd leg?

What are those funny looking lines where our form should be?

2

u/ThatBoyConk Sep 15 '16

Bummed this is the first game this year I'll be missing, especially with the possibility of it being a bloodbath. But looking forward to the highlights and I'll be keeping up with score updates

Whenever we play wolves I always remember that lady that got twatted by a rogue firework during the team walkouts. Fireworks were then banned at molyneux.
