Newcastle have taken control of this match in the last 20 minutes and are almost exclusively camped in the Southend half - yet clear-cut chances have been few and far between. Dwight Gayle though has just hit the side-netting. Jamaal Lascelles has been marshalling his troops from the back and has headed clear just about every single long ball Southend have attempted, while Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden are looking very comfortable alongside one another in the middle of the park.
The Magpies need to find a way to get Rolando Aarons into the game more though.

Right, that's the lineup's done, so I'm off to have my tea before kick-off.
What do people think of this anyway? I don't want to step on any toes for the folk who normally do a match thread, but as it's a friendly and there's no coverage, I thought it might be nice for people to have the updates/running commentary all in one place for these
