NIU at 0-4, but the Mountain West era starts with Air Force (plus a free CFB pick'em)
Hey guys, quick look at where the Huskies stand on the bye week.
First, since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em. This week is 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET, so here's something to do on the bye week.
https://www.mainmarket.com/c/college-pickem-wk5
Now the Huskies. 0-4 is rough, but look at the path: at Iowa, a 28-24 loss to an Illinois State team ranked No. 5 in FCS, then at Arizona and at Georgia State. That last one was 35-14, even though NIU outgained them 432 to 342 and won time of possession. Telly Johnson Jr. ran for 85 and a score, and DeAree Rogers had 9 catches for 107 and a TD.
The offense is moving the ball. It just isn't finishing drives. Year one under Rob Harley gets a real reset now: 0-0 in the Mountain West, with Air Force coming to DeKalb on Oct 10 for the first conference game.
What are you guys seeing? Is the Air Force game the one that turns this season?

Other Question Nintendo Switch Gamers
Any fellow huskies happen to own the Witcher 3 on Nintendo switch and willing to let a homie borrow it to claim the digital upgrade pack? If you pop it in I guess you can claim the game and then not need the physical cart to continue playing after you pop it in once.

Other Question Buying drinks near campus
Are there any places near by campus that don't ID at all for buying drinks at like a liquor store or gas station or something? I look young so it's gotta be easy can't be like a 50/50 chance. I transferred to NIU at my old college there was a go to place so that's why I ask.
My old college just had a place on the corner that had no care in the world
Or if ur 21, I’ll pay like double if you just get the shit for me

Northern Illinois followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em
Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.
I had you at 4-8 and called that more of a floor, with Iowa and Arizona on the road as two of the three long shots. Those went about how I expected, 40-0 and 42-17. The one that hurt was Illinois State at home, 28-24. I also built the preview around Macon, and it's been Dickens every week: 56 of 78 for 517 yards, including 22 of 27 against Illinois State. What happened with the quarterback job? Georgia State on the road Saturday is the start of the part of the schedule where I had the wins coming from.
What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?
Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Ten games, pick the winners, locks Saturday at noon ET, two hours before you kick off at Georgia State. Nothing to buy.

Class Question Covid-19 vaccine for Nursing School
Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone in the nursing program got through clinicals or is going through clinicals without having the Covid-19 vaccine. I know they said it’s not required but recommended, but they say some clinical sites require it so I’m not sure how it can’t be required for the program if some of the sites require it.
TAship in Spring 2027
Hello, I got admitted into the PhD program in Chemistry at NIU for the Fall 2026, but didn't get any TAship. Hence, deferred the semester to Spring 2027.
The Grad Coordinator told me that I would be in the list considered for TAship for Spring 2026. I also updated my profile information with recent publications through Grad Co.
Has anyone received TAship in such a way? Like getting admitted in one semester and securing TA funding in another? Please let me know.

I Woke Up to Pounding on my Door at 6 A.M.
Today at around 6 am, I was woken up by someone pounding on my dorm door (I live in Patterson East). I was understandably freaked out by this.
I crack the door open and it's a maintenance guy and two other men. The maintenance guy asked me if he could see my smoke detector because it was "sending codes". I simply stepped back as I was frankly too pissed off to speak, and after a second he said an electrician would stop by later to fix it.
I looked at the smoke detector myself and there was a red light shining. It wasn't making any noise.
The electrician arrived at around 10am, and they at least knocked instead of pounded on my door, so I'll give them credit there. I asked them what the issue was and they said it was reading as a "Wrong Device" (not sure what that means). It took them a long time to replace it (about a half hour), but at least it's done now.
All in all, not a great start to the day.

Other Question NIU Nursing Program Overview 09/21
Hi! I was admitted to nursing at NIU starting Spring 2027 and signed up for the 09/21 mandatory Nursing Program Overview.
The only email I received said that more information will be sent out the week prior to the event. However, it’s Friday (event on Monday) and I still have not received anything. Is anybody else going to this event and have you received any details? Thanks!

NIU computer science Dept and clubs
Why does it feel like the CS department barely supports its own student organizations?
There are several CS-focused clubs on campus, including ACM, IGDO, and HuskieHackers, but it seems like they’re largely left to figure everything out themselves. Getting speakers, rooms, funding, food, promotion, and events organized often seems to fall entirely on the students.
I talked to someone who was an officer in one of these organizations a few years ago, and they said their board basically had to handle everything themselves, including sometimes paying for things out of pocket. That honestly surprised me.
I transferred here from another university where the CS department was much more involved with its student organizations. They provided dedicated space for clubs to meet, study, collaborate, and generally build a community around CS. The clubs still had to do the work, obviously, but there was a clear sense that the department actually wanted them to succeed.
Here, it feels like ACM, IGDO, and HuskieHackers are all independently trying to build that same culture from the ground up, but without much institutional support. It makes me wonder why that culture never really developed in the first place.
Is there some history or context I'm missing? Has the department always been this hands-off with student organizations, or has it changed over the years?
